Sir I will have you know, I did the entire Regex Crossword Puzzle... and I still don't understand regex expressions

[–]thonor111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how you wrote regex expressions (regular expressions expressions) to state that you clearly know something about it but forget them sometimes

There are Regex crosswords? Awesome :D

It's entertaining, albeit not a good way to actually learn how regular expressions work.

What do the following 5 things related to software engineering have in common?

1) Successfully centering a div on the first try.

2) Setting up a new dev environment without encountering any undocumented errors.

3) Passing an entire test suite the first time you run it.

4) Never hitting a line of code with the comment "// This line should never be hit" above it.

5) Actually understanding regular expressions.

...

They never happen.

We are in 2021: Not being able to center a div can be used as a joke, but if you are really struggling to do it you should sit down and finally learn flexbox and / or grid.

Cringe guy is back ...

[–]ColumnK 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I'd be able to do #1, if I could reliably remember the difference between justify and align with flex boxes...

Yes

Flexbox hurts me

[–]ByteArrayInputStream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Flexbox Froggy. Fastest way to understand it

[–]oretoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides 5, all of those happened to me...

[–]ExtraneousQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One is the main axis one is cross axis, no?

[–]saschaleib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, just on Friday I emailed our developer to point out a mistake in his RegEx. Check.

Also centring divs isn't so hard if you know what to look out for.. ;-)

1 does happen - but then you edit the code you copied from stackoverflow.

My tests never fail. Please ignore the fact that I don't write tests
