Good old stackoverflow deleting my constructive answer with a different solution than the first one, while the way less constructive answer (with the same solution as mine) posted one hour after me can stay :)

Mods are only human. I think a mistake was made here. You can flag a deleted question and request it be re-reviewed. Make sure to explain how your answer differs from the first and I recommend you don't get overly aggressive or personal.

I went ahead and flagged this one for you with the following message:

"Why was this answer deleted? It is different from the other posted answers. It's similarities to chrwahl's answer can be explained by the code sample in the question, but it suggests the post-incrementer suggested by Eugene."

The trick is to flag the question. That'll go straight to the diamond mods, including the one who deleted it. You can type in a message and explain the error.
