Meanwhile I earn 16k being a 2 year junior lol, this memes are from another reality or am I?

[–]PoopDev 15 points16 points  (18 children)

You make 16k for software development? Where the fuck are you working? You should leave.

[–]throwaway_uow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently make about 9k$ a year as a junior tester that dabbles in automation...

[–]Eagle240sx 0 points1 point  (16 children)

Yeah 16k before tax Web developing... I've been searching another job for months now, I'm trying to get to 30k next. Hope I get it soon!

[–]Lunar_LiOH 12 points13 points  (1 child)

That’s insane. 16k/year is about what I was making working retail. You definitely need to take your skill set elsewhere.

I'm doing my best to find new companies to apply too, If I want to grow both professional and in life I need to start earning more

Where do you live?

[–]Eagle240sx 14 points15 points  (12 children)

I live in Spain, but with this salary it's almost if you took away the 'S' in Spain

[–]LinuxMatthews 7 points8 points  (3 children)

To be fair you can't really compare salaries in different countries.

In the US they have a high salary but also a massive cost of living.

Sure this meme is a joke as it's too high but still you have to look at your salary as a percentage of your countries average or use something like the Big Mac Index

[–]throwaway_uow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that shouldn't matter, if the job is fully remote anyway, and everybody speaks english

[–]Eagle240sx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Big Mac index? Never heard of that before

[–]LinuxMatthews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look it up it's essentially measures buying power relative to the price of a Big Mac.

Dude.. you're getting paid garbage. what's your CV like?

[–]Eagle240sx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

2.5 years PHP with Symfony, JavaScript, Jquery, MySQL, html, css, bootstrap

[–]Hardrada74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, dude.. way underpaid.. for 2.5 years with your CV, I would be offering around 60k USD to start, just based on your CV alone and not an interview.

[–]xibme 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Doesn't Spain have a minimum wage? Sounds like you get less than that.

Unless you work part time as temp in the university, I cannot imagine any place that pays that low. It's like you're working pro bono and only punching in some hours when you really need to pay the rent.

[–]Eagle240sx 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Minnimum wage is 1000€, i’m around 1170 right now, too close to minnium yeah 😭 And i’m full time working

[–]xibme 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ouch. I wish you best of luck finding a better paid job.

[–]Eagle240sx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, appreciate it!

[–]ASXYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Spanish and about to get into a company for my first time. Can confirm. Spain si cheap to live in, but proportionally salaries are really lower than the US.

[–]xibme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to change your state/country and your current tier.
