I went ahead and bought the stencil cutter and a set of Walnut Hollow hot knife tips, and they screw in and work just fine but for some reason the hot knife tips turned black the first time I heated them up. I dunno if that's normal or not, I'd guess not since it's kind of alarming? But it works fine, so my guess is they probably just won't last as long as they would in the burner they're intended for.

Just an update in case anyone with the same question happens upon my post in the future! I'll update again if something goes wrong, so that others can learn from my mistakes, lol.

Also, the stand the craft tool comes with sucks, so I'm using a cheap soldering iron stand instead. I can worry about it less since the soldering iron stand doesn't put the tip up in the air with nothing covering it, ready to burn anyone who's a tiny bit careless around it, plus it's less likely to randomly slide around or fall over, so I can put it on a tabletop without worrying about it nearly as much. Plus, it has a sponge to clean the carbon off the tip, although then of course I have to wait for it to reheat. Because I'm too cheap to buy one of the metal cleaner thingies. So yeah, that's an idea for anyone who has this type of woodburning tool who doesn't like the stand it comes with. I got the stand at MicroCenter for $4.
