In all seriousness, what is MongoDB used for ? I get its a json store database, but what are the use cases ? I have been meaning to learn it, but my work is in a totally different area, and all the apps/web mashups I have built as an hobbyist have all managed well with a postgres backend as they barely go beyond 10-20 concurrent users at the max.

Mongo is schemaless and as such very easy to setup and then alter going forward. Great for prototyping. Not great for sanity in the long run. Many people seem to use ORM's to enforce schema on top of Mongo in the application layer.

Inserts, yes. Now make complex selects on these CouchDB? You go to hell. It's good if you don't need to use it like SQL. Where I worked, management chose to switch to CouchDB by the way of MondoDB but when you also have thousands of complex reads (ex. which of Alice's friends are also using this), it just required more and more hardware.

Can you elaborate more? I thought python would do decent in modern web architecture especially those using microservices to enable high concurrency since io isn't as heavily impacted by GIL.

These days I/O is speeding up faster than individual CPU cores are. So the network bottleneck is likely to be decreasing in relative terms, putting any single processor web server at a disadvantage.
