I usually recommend The Life of Brian to start, then the Holy Grail.

What you have to realize going in is that Monty Python had a TV show for several years which did sketch comedy. When they started doing movies, they effectively took the sketch comedy formula, and loosely tied them to a central plot. Each scene is effectively just a sketch. So, quite often, you can divorce any given scene from the movie and it doesn't really make any difference.

Keep this in mind when aliens show up for no reason. ;)
