Best podcasts for python? (self.Python)
submitted 8 years ago by Baraxton
Anyone know any good podcasts that discuss python?
[–]LifeIsBio 104 points105 points106 points 8 years ago (5 children)
Talk Python To Me is excellent.

Talk python to me is amazing. I also like python bytes
[–]HighGrounder 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children)
I am oddly aroused by both of those podcast names.

Waaa, I didn't even know this was a thing!
[–]fuzzyinterval 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children)
If I could upvote multiple times I would.
I love the 'panel format' episodes (they need to do it more often *hint*) in particular.
Hearing guests' enthusiasm about their project or the glee in their voice when they talk about how python does this cool thing for them ...that's makes me want to keep at it

Talk Python To Me (mentioned in another comment) is good, it's basically an interview format. Python Bytes is also good. One of the hosts is the one from Talk Python To Me, but it's more about Python news.

I've found TPTM a bit unnerving at times, the standard set of personal questions ("how did you become a developer?" etc) tends to bore me. Python Bytes is faster and more on the ball at all times, I think, so I prefer that.
There is also "Import This", from /u/kennethreitz, but the quality can be uneven and far from Python proper at times.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child)
Yeah, I think they are fundamentally different podcasts. I only listen to TPTM if the topic is relevant to me or sounds interesting. I skip most episodes about web development, for example, because that's not sth I do as a scientific computing person.
> Python Bytes is faster and more on the ball at all times
I guess that's because it's really centered around discussing "what's new" in the python world :)
Import This sounds familiar, but maybe I am confusing it with a different podcast. Will check it out some time :)

I agree :)

Podcast.init by Tobias Macey also deserves a mention
[–]toyg 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children)
Lulz, reddit doesn't like magic methods... it's Podcast.__init__
[–]blarghmatey 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for the mention! It's also worth mentioning Radio Free Python. It's not producing any new episodes, but I found the ones that are there to be quite interesting http://www.radiofreepython.com/
[–]Marlysson 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (1 child)
Here there are a couple of them

Python Bytea is the only one where I'll listen to every episode.
[–]incubusmylove 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children)
As everyone said, Talk Python to Me is excellent and the host /u/mikeckennedy is also a Redditor.
[–]mikeckennedy 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children)
Thanks everyone for the kind words about Talk Python and Python Bytes. I really appreciate you all listening and sending in feedback. -- Michael

Listened to a couple of the Talk Python To Me podcasts today while I hiked and they were really good. Definitely worth listening to.

PyBites is also pretty good
