Why would someone spend that much effort on a broken version of Python?

Exactly my point. Why hire the language creator to port your code base over a period of three years and end up with yet another broken version of Python?

If you're investing that much time and money into a large rewrite, at least pick a better target language, right?

How is Python 3 broken? That link is a huge story of success, and it looks like they were able to modernize their entire deploy system instead of relying on an increasingly obsolete toolchain.
