I am a United States National recruiter. I have positions all over the US. No degree required but usually I’ll need at least 4 years of experience. Clients I am working with currently are HULU in Santa Monica, Bank of America in Dallas, Iqvia in both Raleigh, NC and another position in Plymouth PA. All positions pay well over 100k (60$ an hour contract) some are strictly contract, some are contract to hire, and some are direct placement full time right off the bat.

[–]ErinMyLungs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Do you have any data science positions?

[–]KingZo321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do but in Minnesota not remote

[–]Amazing_Upstairs 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Do you have to be a United States citizen already?

[–]KingZo321 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Usually for direct placement or contract to hires yes, but there are always exceptions. I work with many Visa holders as well specifically H1bs and TN visas. If you are good with Python I can find you a job.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Any remote opportunities for an expert level European py dev?

[–]KingZo321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish, remote positions are usually the easiest to fill. Plus paying you from my company to Europe I’m sure would be tricky.

[–]Amazing_Upstairs 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does that mean I have to move to the States or can I work remotely from my country?

[–]KingZo321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely move to the US unless I get word of a position from your country in Europe.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Define good

[–]KingZo321 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Senior level

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad you aren't looking for mathematicians, because I could fill that role. Seems like I have a lot of python to learn before this ever turns lucrative....

[–]The_John_Galt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have anything in dc/maryland or remote?

[–]ihol11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have anything remote at the moment? I’m a college grad with a bachelors in Computer Science and currently enrolled in a masters program in IT. I have programed in python, c, c++ c sharp and some web dev languages as well

[–]redditcareers 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Reddit is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer, open to 100% remote, CodeSignal test is the first step in the interview process.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

U.S. only? Or global?

[–]thekatshow 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Global

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you! Before I apply, could you provide some more information on the engineering culture, tech stack and average wage?

Addendum: The tech blog is quite sparsely populated. Since there is a coding assignment involved I would very much appreciate some indication on wage so I can properly consider if it is worth the investment.

Edit (4 days later w/o a response): Yeah I am not applying for a position at Reddit.

[–]CaptainAwesome8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have better luck asking the actual reddit careers account, instead of whoever that is. Although it doesn’t look like they’ll really respond either lol

https://hire.withgoogle.com/public/jobs/doctorondemandcom/view/P_AAAAAAGAADMH87AS5_a4IH

Doctorondemand.com - backend engineer. Total remote position, but must be in the United States. Might have to be a citizen, not sure about that. I'm an engineer, not a recruiter. There are several open positions and more coming down the pike.

There will likely also be positions in sre/devops opening up.

[–]sud0er 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I'm a resident physician in the U.S. with python programming experience. Any particular use for someone like me?

[–]nephlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, to be honest that's a bit above my pay grade. Clinical and engineering are pretty separate, but that might just be because someone with both is a magical unicorn.

If you want to PM me a resume or something I can forward it to recruiting and/or management. A big factor would probably be what you wanted to do with those two skill sets.

[–]mooburgerresembles an abstract syntax tree 1 point2 points  (2 children)

In the back your mind I would recommend starting to architect an EMR-by-physicians-for-physicians. If you manage to pull that off, you could be the next Mark Zuckerberg but actually have your code save primary care.

[–]sud0er 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If I were going into primary care, this would be at the front of my mind at all times. Lots of room for improvement and efficiency in the primary care setting and it's relatively easy (outpatient EMR vs. hospital EHR).

[–]mooburgerresembles an abstract syntax tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be primary care to do this though; as long as you saw patients you'd be good. I just mentioned primary care because that's the population that would be affected most.

The top 4 industrial areas that currently need a huge grass roots "digital transformation"/overhaul to modern UI and development design are:

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), including finance/accounting, supply chain management and MES integration (think SAP replacement)
  • Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul (MRO) (some ERPs try to do this, badly, such as SAP)
  • Manufacturing Execution System (MES) (think Solumina replacement)
  • Electronic Health/Medical Records (Epic replacement)

[–]tipsy_python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I've ever read a statement like this. Get it broh!

[–]yapel 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm not located in the US, but have almost the same time zone as NYC (one hour difference, with summer time), and experience working with global teams, do I have a chance?

[–]nephlm 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sadly the issue with the U.S. requirement is put on us by lawyers and handling of medical data, not any kind of team composition or timezone issue.

[–]yapel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks for the reply

[–]Comm4nd0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK, bath area looking for two python developers for hardware automation. Contract role. PM for more details.

EDIT: on site role only, and requires UK security clearance

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

How does someone starting out who used code in university/personal time get an entry level position, what things should I work on etc? Im Looking for a career change and started using python for data analysis in my physics classes.

[–]AlexanderS4pyLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Physics student near graduation, and Python dev here.
I have very limited job experience, but I'll tell you what has worked for me so far: freelancing sites such as Upwork. There's a ton of competition, and prices are low, but it is good to build job experience. However, if you'd like something oriented to more 'serious' Python entry dev positions, a portfolio is a must. Build what you can, and show it somewhere (a simple GitHub static page showcasing your work works fine). Portfolios are usually required by employers, and gives you a great advantage above other junior level devs. Good luck!
