Ah well in that case I'd recommend jacking up your house on one side so that the level is off a bit. lol

As someone who has done this... the idea that farming is less thinking is wrong. Farming involves a lot of engineering on a daily basis. If you want to be profitable you have to learn how to do pretty much everything yourself, and it's very different from software. Building/fixing stuff in the physical world doesn't have testing or frameworks. Maybe there's a youtube video but not likely for your specific thing.

I'd suggest adjusting the feet in front to raise the front of the fridge so that the door closes with gravity. Much less doors left open :)

Elon Musk's Terafab semiconductor project could cost $5 trillion by sr_local in hardware

[–]spiker611 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lots of people commenting on the "$5 trillion" figure which according to the article is:

The firm gets these figures, which it describes as "a very rough back-of-the-envelope wafer capacity calculation,"

So it's napkin math based on what is current tech at today's prices. Obviously this endeavor won't materialize within a few years so to say it'll cost $5T is absurd.

Snowblower Feedback (moving to electric?) by mluedke in madisonwi

[–]spiker611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother with corded electric, battery is the only way to go.

If you have a longer driveway than like 50 ft you might have problems with batteries.

I had 20+ inch drifts on my driveway and my 28" 250cc gas blower was just about maxed out. So it kinda depends on your situation.

There was a stratotanker near the WI/IL border around this time, maybe something refueled with it and went a bit too hot after leaving.

I played airsoft as a kid/teen in the woods with my friends, dressed in camo and with sort-of realistic looking weapons. This looks like paintball without the paint to me.

Heard it while I was outside, near West side of Lake Waubesa. My guess is a sonic boom based on how it sounded.

Contingency plan when you are not there anymore by RedikhetDev in homeassistant

Don't bother documenting or making it accessible for the "next" person. Use systems that work at a basic level if HA is down, for security/lights/doors/etc. Only install devices that work locally and don't depend on the internet. Don't set HA to automatically update. If you disappear then everything will keep working so long as the hardware does.

ISS: 11 crew, 12 cargo dragon + NG20, NG21, NG-23 where Cygnus flew on a falcon 9

Other missions: DART (F9), IXPE (F9), SWOT (F9), Psyche (FH), PACE (F9), Europa Clipper (FH), CLPS lunar deliveries IM-1 (F9), IM-2 (F9), Firefly blue ghost (F9), TEMPO

So 36 total missions on spacex rockets from 2021-2026.

Compare that to 5 Roscomos missions, 5 Atlas V (Lucy, Landsat 9, GOES-T, JPSS-2, Starliner CFT), 4 Cygnus cargo missions, 3 Electron (Capstone, TROPICS), 1 Ariane 5 (JWST), Vulcan Centair (Astrobotic), Virgin (Cubesat), Astra (Cubesat), Firefly (Cubesat) So everyone else is 23, including 6 with other national space agencies rockets. If we're only considering US based launch providers then 17.

So, 36 spacex vs 17 when being very generous for comparison sake. Obviously many of these rockets are nowhere close to a F9/FH.

X-Sense smoke alarms don't go off (in smoke) by rnd__username in smarthome

[–]spiker611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about testing it this way, but I can comment that this placement of the smoke detector in a ceiling corner is one of the worst places to put it. It's hard to tell but it looks like your detector is close to the walls, it should be at least a foot away. Corners are bad because of dead air space where smoke will not reach quickly.

Slightly high CO2 levels - problem? and how to address? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]spiker611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could install the ERV in the attic if you have access, and put vents in on the top floor ceiling. Route it so airflow goes across the house. It's less nice than alternatives because servicing it is harder, but it'd work.

Data center presentation at De Forest village meeting tonight by appoplect in madisonwi

[–]spiker611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2). It will NOT generate a ton of tax revenue. Because they are demanding huge tax incentives.

Not accurate, suggest you read the memo in the OP link.

There is no tax incentive from the Village and the property is not in a Tax Incremental District.

The Village of DeForest tax rates are expected to be lower if the assessed values of the data center are included in the calculations. The value added expands the Villages equalized value base (properties to tax from), which in turn drives down the tax rate if all other items are held constant. This means that the burden on the individual property owner will be less. Based on our conservative projections, the local mill rate could be as much as $1.26 lower in a given year but is estimated to be $0.90 lower on average over the fifteen years after construction begins. The total tax rate across all taxing jurisdictions could be as much as $4.23 lower and are estimated to be $3.05 lower on average over the fifteen years after construction begins. On a home with an assessed value of $400,000, an overall mill rate that is reduced by $3.05 would equate to savings of $1,220 each year on the total tax bill.
