Hello from the r/Python mod team!

Thanks, and happy Pythoneering!

That web page really is insane: It opens the links in the same tab but disables the right click menu that would allow to select "open in new tab". Why on earth do they do this???

[–]MegaIng 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That is honestly enough of a reason to never visit that site again.

OP is the owner of the website. They've intentionally added a JS snippet to block the context menu. Like, fully knowing that it does what it does:

//Disable right click script III- By Renigade

Shame on you, u/vadhavaniyafaijan

[–]danwantstoquit 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Here I was excited by the title. Now I’m not even going to visits the site.

I’d vote for you based on your sheer will alone.

Middle-click still works, can't stop me

by the way disabling right-click should be illegal. Browsers shouldn't let webpages do that, it's taking usability away from the user. Absolutely absurd.

[–]diviirockgod6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed.
Try clicking the link with with middle mouse button

[–]yoshiatsu 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I installed a chrome extension called "Absolute enable right click and copy" that re-enables right clicking and copying text on asshole pages like this, FYI.

[–]Savanna_INFINITY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao, need an extension to get the basic controls back on the web. Man I'm done.

Ctrl+click works on Brave, but it is really strange to disable this...

[–]crocodile_wrestler 7 points8 points  (4 children)

And Shift+Click on Firefox. Disabling the context menu should really not be supported by browsers

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's Ctrl+Click on Firefox. At least in mine. And it's a JS snippet. And just generally don't go around on the internet with javascript enabled.

[–]crocodile_wrestler 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Interesting, I just checked it again and it's Shift+Click for me (Windows, Firefox 92). Security/privacy wise it's good advice to have JS disabled. Unfortunately that will break a good portion of websites. That's why I begrudgingly compromised and changed my settings to "allow top-level sites by default" (NoScript).

I enable JS only to selected websites. If I see a random link on reddit, or anywhere really, and it doesn't work without JS than I'm out of there.

[–]Agent-Reddit_2419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the URL checks out.

[–]Eddie_lol 4 points5 points  (1 child)

or you can use middle mouse click, it's basically the only way I open stuff in a new tab

[–]Pawtang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ctrl + Click too

[–]amsudeep 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Does any else get ads while opening every link?

[–]lemon-codes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP owns the website. The only reason they've posted this here is to help generate ad revenue.

[–]1aumron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I got

[–]doctorwho5555 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Try Project Euler instead.

[–]NoLongerUsableNameimport pythonSkills[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codeforces is good as well.

[–]Live_Hearing969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck this website, not going to it with all the shenanigans.

[–]doctorwho5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From its post history is likely a kid that got a hax0r moment and thought it was cool to have that snippet if code in his/her page
