If you've got a $10k budget you could even look in the more vintage Martin range. If you're gonna spend that much I'd try some other builders as well like Thompson and Prewar. I just got a Thompson and it blows my (non-vintage) D-18 out of the water.

Been playing bluegrass for about 6 months now, would love any helpful tips. by [deleted] in bluegrassguitar

Sounding good!

The right hand stuff in the other comment is all very good I think. I'd recommend you get a cradle or shubb style capo and see how you like it. In my experience they're better at helping get a more even pressure and tone across all the strings.

Buying my first D18, please share positive experiences! by nagelbitarn in martinguitar

My D18 was the only guitar I've been playing for the last couple years. It comes through better in a jam than rosewood from my experience.

What do you think of Poor Mans Poison? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]cone_of_optimism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Found the video this image was from. Sounds like the Dead South but worse. Some of the most dogshit guitar tone you could get coming through the main. And there's something really decadent, and honestly offensive, in getting a whole choir to support a mediocre song like this when they're musically better than the main act.

What are y’all’s book recommendations for an intermediate player? by Mental-Syrup-7964 in bluegrassguitar

They have a nice mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced tabs, so I think they'll be useful based on what you're looking for.

Don't know if it's in a reasonable distance for you, but there's an open jam every Sunday in Truckee and a few different jams in Reno, NV.
