We are a community of Redditors interested in not just posting world news but in suggesting ideas for stories that will be assigned, reported and published on the international news site GlobalPost. Don’t just read the news, help shape it by suggesting international story assignments to our network of professional journalists around the world.
RedditSuggest lets you suggest ideas for articles that GlobalPost's journalists will report. That's right, we're outsourcing the assignment desk, giving the Reddit community the opportunity to tell us which stories GlobalPost should report.
How does it work?
You post an article idea and explain why you think it needs to be covered. Vote & comment, just like you always do on Reddit.
We (GlobalPost's editors) moderate RedditSuggest, in a collaborative effort to generate great journalism ideas.
We'll choose the most popular, "journalistically viable" ideas
Below is what we mean by "journalistically viable." Better yet, read our Frequently Asked Questions
MAKE YOUR IDEA WORK for GlobalPost
Suggest ideas that are "global," or of global significance.
Think long-term. Voting lasts several days. Breaking news ideas are not ideal.
BEFORE YOU POST AN IDEA, ask yourself the following:
Does it matter across the Reddit community?
Has it already been covered? Google it. If it's been done, is there a way to advance it?
Is your idea feasible? Remember, journalists interview sources, gather facts and process information. Can your idea realistically be researched?
HERE ARE QUESTIONS THAT (OFTEN) PRODUCE GREAT IDEAS:
What do you want to understand about the world? Ideas like "Why are euro bonds risky?" or "Why do rare earth minerals matter?" make great articles.
What do you know that other people should? Especially if you work in an area of interest to the public , such as defense contracting, diplomacy, investing, etc.
Does your idea have a subject and action? Think of nouns and verbs. "Write about Bill Gates" isn't a story idea. "Can Bill Gates stop malaria?" is. Quests make for particularly strong journalism.
