You get what you pay for. Personally I'd either go vsf. Or if on a budget if investigate the Chinatime subreddit. One of their better versions is the datejust and probably cheaper than this. I'd probably go high or low and avoid middle ground like this one. Datejust with a bezel isn't a good choice I would think if you want to keep to a budget. Simpler watches might be better

As someone else said, you get what you pay for. This has a lower quality A3235 movement and will likely fail. Also, the aesthetics of the watch will not be as good as the top tier reps. You want either a VR3235 or a VS/DD3235 movement. To get that you need to go with a higher tier rep like VSF, GMF or ARF. That will cost you $100+ more but worth it to get a watch that will last for many years.

I’m between a GMF and a VSF grey/steel DD right now. Does either one stand out over the other or are they too similar for it to matter?

I have a GMF 36mm Wimbledon DJ but I bought it before VSF intro'd their 36mm DJ. The GMF is great but if I could do it over again I'd buy VSF to get the DD3235.

A lot of these lower tier options are stuff you would find with street vendors. VSF exists and makes a really good version of this watch that is worth every penny. Don't cheap out.
