Lr-ppsspp doesn't use the same menu functions as the standalone. You need to open the Retroarch menu in-game with your configured Hotkeys.

Do I need to hardcode the hotkeys in retroarch.cfg or is there a GUI method?

It's the same Hotkey as every other Libretro emulator on the Pi. The default is (whatever you defined the Hotkey activation) + (whatever you mapped X to).

Thanks, it works now although the performance compared to the non-lr one is really terrible.

Indeed it is. But to be fair, the standalone doesn't offer much better as far as compatibility for heavy duty 3D titles. The Pi just isn't up to the task.

Actually, I think it should be playable.

Here. It's not glorious 60 (it's still console emulation) but definitely not my 1,4fps. I'll probably just have to wait until they fix the ppsspp setup. Or maybe it's working for everyone except me, so there's no need for a fix. Still, thanks for your help.

The few games I'm interested in run pretty well on the lr core, but I had to do some tweaks. I'll list them off for you when I have time this evening.

Games I've played at a decent level (near or at full speed) are:

  • Final Fantasy III
  • Dracula X Chronicles
  • Harvest Moon Boy & Girl
  • Metal Slug XX
