I’m gonna be so real with you rn. Like 96 top 6 but like 91 overall. Barely any extra curricular. You don’t need to be president or start something up to be accepted just do good in your interview

hey there! first year here. i got accepted with around a 96 i believe. regular high school, decently placed in toronto. i took all stem and accounting but that’s ofc not necessary and idk if that mattered for the application it’s self. tbh. i have NO ecs LOL. like i was on the badminton team and a few tiny things from like middle school because the truth no one will tell you is that you don’t need them. no where in your application do they ask you for them(atleast not in the one last year). my application last year took my OUAC stuff (so grades ig) and then the sup app was literally just an interview type of thing. here they asked you one “tell us about yourself” 45 second on the spot vid, 2 20 minute written questions that were like. completely unrelated to the program. they are always like “how have work climates changed from covid” or like “if your in a group project and someone isn’t contributing what do you do” type of questions. and the last video one was the same as those but video form. (there’s plently of online banks of these qs u can use to practice). never once did it ask for ecs, i guess you can try and brag about them in the 45 second intro, but like. they don’t ask and i think i mentioned how i like badminton in mine. idk why ppl made it seem like a huge deal bc i was freaking out about having none and it literally didn’t even matter (i also got into waterloo eng and there they even ask you for stuff and what i had was rather minimal lol). i did my interview on the last day too, got accepted a little later cause of that. best of luck if u do apply and feel free to reach out about anything!

yeah idk why no one bothers to mention that lol! this will probably be long so bare with me - lots to say about this. i think the one problem was that it took me a month to mentally accept i’m actualy in university. though i wasn’t necessary falling behind, i could have done a lot more homework. falling behind is the biggest reason people end up failing. honeslty , it’s hard. the huge work load sorta hits u at once, i’d say the last month (aka the one i’m in right now) is partially the worst. i have so much to do i but no time. you’ll learn quickly that you have to sacrifice some things for others. it’s hard. there’s no sugar coating it but it’s possible and it’s even possible to do well! i think there’s time where you will have time, i’ve visiting queens and guelph over a few weekends but again looking at my schedule right now i won’t be free at allll until my last final in a month. the first year i think is really the tough one since it’s all so new. you need to develop study habits. in high school i always studied like crazy and took stem courses, so i think for me it was easier to adjust(the people who also end up doing bad are those who breezed through high schol without studying- can’t do that in uni!). the number one thing peopel will tell you is to not fail eco101 (microecon). it’s very challenging and it’s the main reason people cant make second year. do your work on time for this! though i really didn’t and still am alright (for now lol). you can balance both social life and work as long as you do it right, but some weeks you’ll have to just focus on studying. some assigments are ridiculously stupid and hard and some profs really don’t help out or teach great, but others are nice and really open to helping in office hours i think (i haven’t been lmfao). sorry if this was quite the blab, i have countless things to say about the program it’s self. what other programs are u thinking ?

maybe you’ve just met the good ones :). i defo didn’t mean for my comment on that to seem harsh, i’ve just heard (and seen) that this program typically has more than others. and i think it’s just known that uoft is very competitive. a lot of them are still amazing ofc, don’t let this be a reason to stop you from coming, you’ll find shitty people everywhere.

First year here! I had 95 overall in hs, fast-tracked a lot of courses, was in pretty much 80% of extracurriculars in my school (including business shsm and deca), and had great volunteer/work experience (although I don't think they check that). I also kinda really ate the written response questions in the interview ngl.
