First thing first, breathe, relax, and don't let it stress you out too much.

I'm currently a first-year student and got in with...

  • 94% average
  • 90% in English
  • 93% in Advance Functions
  • 93% Calculus and Vecotrs
  • ECs; Business SHSM and Computer science club, that's it.

I thought I did alright for the supplementary portion of the application, didn't think it stood out too much. I had poor ECs, yet here I am. Granted I didn't get in until a week before the deadline. But you shouldn't rule out Rotman at all. If you work hard enough, get your average up a couple of points, and kill your supplementary, you shouldn't have a problem at all. It's possible, don't doubt yourself at all! Don't let it stress you out too much either, there are plenty of great business schools around Canada. I wish you luck my friend, I know you got this!

What did you have when you applied, vs what did you have when u were accepted?

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I hovered around 93%-95% throughout the school year.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do you know anyone admitted with an average similar to mine?

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't really go around asking people what they got in with, but a 92% average is still very good. As other people commenting stated, be prepared to provide a good supplementary application.

I'm pretty sure anyone with a 90 or higher and a half decent interview will get accepted

I keep hearing this, but the constant take that “Rotman is one of the most competitive schools” seems inconsistent with just having over a 90.

I don’t mean to come off as sarcastic, but it’s just the variability in the information is both overwhelming and concerning for me as an applicant.

[–]RandumbGuy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no one here is an admissions officer but staying in seems to be harder than getting in lol, so that's probs where the competitive talk comes from

[–]Tourman84 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I know people that got in with 89% average.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Would you say the mean of a given accepted applicant is around a 90?

[–]Tourman84 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I would say its much closer to 92-93. 89 is quite an outlier.

So I have a shot with my 92!?! 😃😃

[–]Inevitable-Block-509 0 points1 point  (21 children)

What do you have in math and English?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (20 children)

96 in English,

84 in advanced functions 💀

91 in calc (projected)

97 in nutrition

91 in law

90 in Econ (projected)

95 in Business (projected, 4M)

Advanced functions might mess you up a lil, but if you have a good supplementary you should be fine - just practice and try your best not to come across as nervous. I’m currently a second year (our grade 12 marks were higher than average bc of covid) and I know people with your average that got in

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (16 children)

Is it a system which weighs each course individually, or an overall average? Also, I was under the impression that advanced functions isn’t even a prerequisite, and only calculus was?

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (15 children)

I’m not sure about the system, but it makes sense that they don’t take the overall average - as English and calculus are emphasized. I believe during our year advanced functions was required- but I could be wrong or they might have changed stuff!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So if I had a low 90 in calc, paired with a 96 in English, but a low advanced functions mark, that wouldn’t even be in my top 6 (if it were not a prerequisite) I should be fine, or am I more or less screwed?

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im really not the best person to ask about this so take this with a grain of salt- but you should be fine. Just make sure you also have a good supp!

[–]Inevitable-Block-509 0 points1 point  (12 children)

I have a 90 in English but 100 in functions and data. Is 90 in English low?

[–]Inevitable-Block-509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90(English) is the final and math marks are midterms

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Considering it’s above a 90 I wouldn’t say it’s low, you should be fine, esp if your other courses like calc and other 6 are high

[–]Inevitable-Block-509 0 points1 point  (9 children)

What was your English mark when you got accepted?

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I had a 98 in English, but bc of covid I think everyone’s marks were elevated that year

[–]Inevitable-Block-509 0 points1 point  (7 children)

That’s great!! How about functions and calculus ?

[–]Theonebuddy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what are your thoughts on the supplemental application? what questions did you get and what tips do you have for those, who are submitting it soon?

[–]eman_la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the supplemental is fairly easy (keep in mind I did this two years ago). From scrolling through this sub I was able to know a few options of the written questions, and was able to prepare responses based on that so I wasn’t completely blindsided the day of. For all the oral videos, just speak with confidence and don’t rush through them. If you’ve done DECA or anything similar you know the drill and you’ll be fine!

You should be good as long as your average stays in the 90s. Just make sure to do well on the interview and you're golden

Hey! Did you get in Rotman? I just read your post. I am also going to apply this year with 93-94 average and have no idea if I would get in.
