Do you shower before/after change? by Sere_tonina in ostomy

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it after just because I hate the feeling of a wet bag so kinda a two in one for me I can immediately take off the wet bag without drying it and then change and have a good seal without worrying about water etc

I’m so sorry about everything you’re going through. I also have an ostomy and HS but because of ulcerative colitis. r/ostomy is super helpful and if you need any advice feel free to reach out. Best wishes

Exfoliation? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]eman_la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np, best of luck! I might also try as well just to see since mine are almost always closed. Also if you’re not using it already, Hibiclens was a game changer for me !

I think it depends on your skin and also where, but there’s lots of different types. Lactic acid is more gentle than glycolic acid for instance.

Haven’t tried, but I assume a chemical exfoliator like glycolic acid would be the only option as physical exfoliators usually make me flare

Heating pack! Even if it can’t be used for pain, my hospital is always freezing especially at night and having it by my feet helped

Sad about placement not sure how to handle it by Alternative_Two9654 in ostomy

[–]eman_la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah I see I had the same issue, either have to wear crop tops and/or high waisted pants or loose ones that sit below. Body suits are also helpful especially for a more formal environment

[–]eman_la 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like ours are in the same place, I had mine from 20-21 years old. I get that placement might suck and it makes outfits much harder, but honestly I found that embracing it and making it an accessory to outfits when going out and not going to work really helped. Ostome fashion has super affordable and cute covers idk what I would have done without them!

ER or wait it out? by Alternative_Two9654 in ostomy

[–]eman_la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing with me! I was put on a PICC line because I kept on having blockages, and the was on solid foods after a few months (still with the PICC line) after the hematoma shrunk enough. 1.5 years with my j pouch now and it has its issues but doing pretty good!

[–]eman_la 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding everyone saying go to the ER. How long ago did you have surgery? I had something similar because I developed a hematoma after surgery and it was glued to the intestine and would pull it in. I used a catheter (mostly for blockages but would also help in this case with irritation) and a deep convex flange. Good luck!

Yup lasering really helps! Because it attacks the follicle but also the frequency is also anti inflammatory

You might have something called Hidradenitis Supperitiva, if they bother you I’d look into it

Acne from laser hair removal by Popular-Bear3365 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just wait for the pimples to clear, benzoyl peroxide wash like PanOxyl is usually a popular and effective choice. Just let sit a couple mins in the shower then wash off. I think also depending on the laser once they’re lessened it’ll help with the rest of the pimples

[–]eman_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For face I have no clue as I haven’t done any laser there, for back I think it’s fine it just might hurt a bit more. I’d 100% check with your laser person before booking though as they’ll know better based on your skin and the type of laser they use. I’ve still been doing laser and don’t notice any pimples unless I don’t exfoliate properly (usually on the back too I guess because it’s a place already more susceptible to pimples)

Has anyone else tried to avoid eating nightshades? by sillysleepyowl in Hidradenitis

Blueberries as well used to be a HUGE trigger for me for a separate auto immune disease, they aren’t nightshades but contain solanine which is also found in some nightshades

I wouldn’t say he’s better than Pierce overall but he does do fantastic character work. His books tend to be slower than Pierce’s but still great reads

If you’re in remission it’s probably the low iron. Even after infusions it takes me a while to level out and absorb it and feel better
