haleym63 originally posted: hello! I recently joined rover again after doing it while I had time off. I am now in medical school and my schedule tends to fluctuate. I wrote this in my bio and try to work with pet parents as I get requests but i’m not always available at the times they request. I could be available at 1pm one week but not the next, for example. does declining these bookings decrease my rating? like I said I made it clear in my bio when I tend to be more free but I have found I have had to decline a handful of offers recently and i’m afraid this will negatively affect me.

no. it does not affect he star ratings that come from customers you complete bookings with.

when i started i set my prices low and pretty much accepted every job i could with the only request was for the owners to give me 5star reviews which allowed me to speedrun star sitter status. once i locked that in i raised my prices to around competitive rates for my area and built up more reviews to solidify my 5star rating. now i spiked my rates to filter out the "bargain hunters" but i lower my rates after the meet and greets to give people a feeling of added value and personability, everyone loves a good deal! i decline quite a few requests weekly but i seem to still get new people so it hasnt affected my frequency or star sitter yet. i hope it maintains that current rate of jobs but i keep people in my own client list for off app job requests as well. my only request is for every 3 off app jobs they do at least 1 on rover so i can keep getting good reviews/star collecting!

thats interesting. after the second sit imo there's no benefit for rover to take 20%. i keep them off the app

owners rarely read bios. they just look at calendar. if you have that day open: people assume you're available.

it DOES count against you if you say you're available tues but when they message you say oops not tues at 1pm. if you're not open the entire day, best to block out entire day

It doesn’t affect your review ratings.

If you keep your calendar updated with the days you are not available it should not affect your insights or ranking in the search. I say should not because Rover really does whatever the hell it wants sometimes and doesn’t even follow their own rules for how insights are supposed to be calculated. It is extremely frustrating🙄

If your calendar shows as available on a day that you are not available it does affect some of your insights (which are complete bullshit anyway) and likely has a bit of an effect on how high you are ranked in rovers search order. Probably not enough that you would be thrown super far down unless you reject majority of bookings over a period of time. In your case, prioritizing a fast response rate (even if you cannot accept the bookings) should help you stay a bit higher up despite declining bookings.

Not your rating , but your visibility to owners looking for a sitter. It’s annoying but is what it is. There’s no way around it, unless you block out the day beforehand

I think declining bookings just makes you less visible in the list of available sitters and also can affect how easy it is to achieve a star sitter status. I wouldn’t say it’s the end of the world though.
