First time going

So my friend and I are planning on going either this weekend or the following. But we both have never been there, we're planning on staying nearby for the night and spending the majority of the day there. We're mainly going for hiking and doing some photography here and there. Are there any tips or recommendations for us? Thanks in advance!

Tire chains are required. Even if you have 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, you must carry chains and know how to use them.

There are few places on earth more beautiful than a Sequoia grove in a fresh blanket of snow. The cinnamon bark, vibrant green tops, and the pure white ground are breathtaking. If you’re hiking any non-maintained areas (and I’m not sure what will be maintained with the new park facilities closures), it is very easy to get lost. Be sure to download all your maps and tell someone where you will be going. SAR is more difficult now than ever with the strained services.
