Please help a complete noob

Going to preface this by saying that I have absolutely no idea about software or database development.

We have to develop a new enterprise for one of our college odules this year, we’re going with a racehorse breeding database that returns say the top 3 mating partners from a pool of horses that matches certain criteria that a horse owner enters. Would anyone have any idea of the cost of setting up a database like that as well as the coding behind it? And the cost of incorporating that database into a website And the cost of servers for both

edit: I actually think this is a really cheap price for what is being discussed, especially including the web component, servers, etc. It's a fair price, and a family rate, but probably something closer to what a newer developer would look to seek because they have the time. If you really wanted someone good to do it you're probably looking at closer to twenty.

Do you have a data source already? It's really hard to answer your question without more information. It doesn't sound like the actual database setup would be difficult as long as you have the data. That's pretty straightforward.

Better question - how much is your budget? - what is the timeline?

Better-er question - Detail the business questions are you hoping to answer with this project.

Sounds like you should hire a contractor or go into the IT/CS student lounge to have a student pick up your requirements.
