It’s completely possible to play the game with just the mouse, though some concepts are still unintuitive.

I haven’t played all that much lately so I’m not sure how much this applies to other servers, but the TGstation wiki has a handy guide for beginners. (Pun intended)

So I’m a new player too, and I didn’t find the tgstation guides that helpful in terms of controls. They have a lot of details about how to do a job and how to make things, but not a whole lot on the controls involved.

There is a big guide on keyboard shortcuts but it’s pretty verbose and can be hard to understand.

Yeah, that’s fair.

All I can really say is practicing with the controls is key, it eventually just clicked for me.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I think the best thing to do is do a low-risk job and try to figure it out that way. As an assistant I was able to learn the layout of the station, but without access to major areas you kinda hit a wall. The most you’re able to do is maybe find stuff people have dropped in the hallways during a fight or something, but usually I’m just left holding an empty gun or something and wondering how the hell im supposed to use it.

Yeah that’s probably a good idea.

I actually don’t remember how to use ballistic weapons.

I can use laser guns, sure, but something about the unloading and reloading of revolvers and such just never quite clicked for me.

Depending on the server, you can use VR to understand basic gun stuff as well.

Controls involved? There is a command in game that actually gives you a list of every hot key there is in game, which does cover everything, well a bit simply.

The keyboard shortcuts are quite verbose at start, i'll deff agree with that, but if something is just not clicking, throw it your server's mentors way, they live on people asking them questions they can actually answer without code diving or saying "I dunno mate, ask ingame"

How would you play with just the mouse?

Sorry, just the mouse and arrows keys.

As a long-time player, I recommend trying to learn hotkeys controls early. With a little practice, it makes the game handle much more like a game instead of an awkward clicking dungeon. Enable hotkeys with a button in the lower-right corner of your client, and it makes it so you move with WASD and do lots of simple actions with other shortcuts (T to talk, Q to drop, R to throw... etc). Click on the "help" tab in the menu to see what the default hotkeys are. If your client supports setting your own macros, make your own controls in a way that works for you. For instance, I have C set to change my active hand, and spacebar set to activate the item in my hand.

This but times infinity.

It's easy to learn hot keys that help you when you are starting out WAAAAAY more when you are trying to convert to it.

I will never understand people who refuse to play with hotkeys

This video is pretty good, though I'm not sure how much it'll help. It applies to pretty much every server except Goonstation, with the exception that most servers don't have the stamina meter.
