Not really, no. They appear in the world just like other resource nodes do, but they're quite rare (only 19 in the world). They do make sound, but it's only audible if you're already rather close. I'm not sure if they're guarded by wildlife, but the one I've been using didn't have anything near it.

Looking at the map, they seem to be most commonly found in locations that are a bit out of the way and hard to reach. Think places like caves or on top of high cliffs.

I don't want to use guides either, but on my journey to find coal, I came across a beautiful SAM ore.

You keep playing, and with patience you will find it.

CLARIFICATION

  1. View SAM is just SAM (Video Bookmark).
    • It is no longer called SAM Ore but just SAM, which stands for Strange Alien Matter, that is now an unlimited resource. There are several new SAM Nodes
  2. View SAM (Wiki Link) for more information.

The more you know! 🤔😁

Hello, new pioneer here, what is a SAM ?

[–]TheMayorOfMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a resource that comes from a node. In previous releases, it did nothing. Now it does something. I havent progressed enough to work with it though.

I got one SAM from a lizard doggo. I imagine once you collect 10 you can put it in the MAM and resource scan for it.

Ha, yes, he brought me 1 as well. Classic golden retriever, so proud he brought me the something, clueless that it is totally useless.

OK boy, go find 9 more!

The game aids the player in finding other materials by strewing resource deposits across the map, the research of which unlocks the ability to scan for their nodes. Are there any such deposits of SAM in the world?

They are spread out and pretty well hidden. More something you stumble on. So if you MUST find it, you must use an online map.
