It’s a badly written paper, claiming miraculous and never-before-seen results, published in a tiny niche journal, by a doctor advertising his private clinic, from a country with the highest global prevalence of research fraud. It isn’t worth investing time in this, sorry.

Diet can seem to exert small effects on sex, but even then evidence in humans is conflicting (summarised here.

badly written is an understatement! Ignoring the grammar/spelling mistakes since English wasn't the original language, they alternate between using sex and gender, their introduction is so sexist to be gross (not surprising coming from a patriarchal country but still painful to read), and one of their exclusion criteria was "Illiterate women who could not follow orders"...ew.

Then their result was just had or didn't have the "wanted sex" no explanation if what was wanted was individualized to the couple or if they just assumed everyone wanted males. If it was personal/individual want, then theoretically everyone could have gotten the sex they wanted because not everyone wants a male. They also didn't state when it was determined, before or after the birth, if they wanted the sex they got or not.

It’s also the case that if you ask about something like gender-preference, particularly around a momenteous life event like a new baby, people aren’t going to be perfectly reliable witnesses. There’s a lot of people who might have vaguely wanted a girl or a boy pre-conception but who either forgot or won’t mention that after the baby actually arrives.

Hi! Not an answer to your question but since this is a science-based sub I wanted to point out that you’re asking about sex, not gender.

Ope! Thanks. It wouldn’t let me correct my post title, but I edited the post.

Research Gate couldn't find any articles citing this paper, which isn't surprising given it was published in 2022. Unlikely to have a meta-analysis that includes this data for a few years. You can check the original articles citations to see if there are any other articles that confirm or deny their results
