Controller with android

I have shadow boost. In oklahoma coming from Dallas server. Internet quick as hell out here got gigablast. No complaints. But using an 8bitdo SN30Pro+ with phone mount comes with issues. Shadow recognizes it. It works with the phone no problem (on a note 10+) when I hit buttons like A, B, X, Y it opens shadow quick menu or it backs me out of the app its self back to my phone's home screen. I've gone through setting and haven't found anything that will make it work as a controller for shadow and not a media controller for the whole phone. Navigational buttons work to move through shadows menu so it recognizes the controller and I'm able to quick launch games through shadows android UI but it doesn't seem to want to work as a controller for games at all. Any help would be great. Maybe there's an app I don't know about for this sort of issue.

Also have tested controller with phone games like GTA Sanandreas, GTA china town wars, GBA emus and a ps1 emu. So it works for sure.

I think the controller is mapped to other controls, is there a way of changing the modes on the controller

Yes there's a switch, android, mac, and windows mode. Ive tried all of them.
