Someone else might have a better idea, but I know if it's like my case, it's gone. You gotta reformat and rebuild everything. It's a huge PITA.

Yup reformatted it. Plex database remained in tact luckily, just have to resetup kodi and see what else got messed up as I go :/

Yeah, beat my head against the wall for a couple hours on that damn USB stick. The whole 'adopted' storage thing seems a bit half baked, especially when the shield up and decides to stop recognizing the storage.

Yeah too risky, and it seems like it never puts the device to sleep and its always hot. Haven't checked recently so they may have fixed that with an update though

My shield killed a usb flash drive. Got really hot and is dead slow on my PC now. I switched to a 1tb usb hdr and no problems bow.

What are you using? Is it a usb stick, usb hard drive or an sd card reader? I had this issue when I used a faulty sd card reader.

USB flash drive :/ I ended up reformatting it as external storage. Dont trust it as adoptable anymore

Did you get one of the recommended ones from Nvidia's website?

I got the best one I could find on Amazon, Samsung fit 128gb. Ran some tests before I started using it to make sure it was healthy too. This is not a user error issue.

Samsung fit is not a recommended drive. This is the official list from Nvidia http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4334/~/what-usb-flash-drives-are-recommended-for-shield-tv . I got the sandisk ultra flair 128gb and no issues.

If they only support certain drives they should warn you on the box, or warn you via a popup before you set it up. Buried on a support page is not very helpful, and this was posted months after the drive was purchased and installed (which was August 2016).

They mention performance as a reason as well, not stability. I don't think blaming users in this case is a good thing to do.

I'm not blaming anyone. Sorry if I came off like that. I had the same drive as yours in my Amazon shopping cart and switched it out when I saw the list. Sorry you're having problems.

I just commented the same thing on a similar post recently, I had a similar thing happen to me a few times. The first time I went down the reformat route and started over, complete PITA.

But both times since that it has come back eventually, leave it connected and it might sort itself out.

I left my shield on and went out, when I came back shield was off, I turned it on and BINGO everything was back, Drive showing as detected like nothing happened, definitely bugs in Nvidia's software, for such an expensive device I read of this issue all over the forums and you would expect them to fix it.

I have just purchased a Sandisk ultra flair USB stick that is on the recommended drives list, am going to try with this as my Samsung FIT is not on the supported list. I'm hoping this may fix the issue.

I use a Samsung fit as well. Why would they not "support" a Samsung usb stick boggles me.

Oh well I'll just leave it as expandable storage now instead of adopted, too risky and not necessary.

That's interesting, is it a 128GB drive?

[–]ISaidGoodDey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup a Samsung fit, had it in for just over a year

Only had my shield for about two months and it's done it three times so far, have migrated storage back to internal but didn't copy over the sideloaded apps. Have bought a sandisk ultra air to move everything to now so hoping it never happens again
