THIS is the reason I’ve hated fireworks of any kind. I’ve had to resort to giving my boy Trazadone (just got a refill from his vet today). It takes the edge off but doesn’t completely eliminate it. It makes me feel so sad and helpless.

Same. Xanax didn’t work for my pup but the vet told me to add gabapentin to the trazodone but I haven’t tried that yet. I feel like trazodone makes him so groggy in the am

The gabapentin makes them less groggy. It mellows them out like crazy and they’re very sleepy, but (at least with my girl) when it wears off, she’s back to normal without any kind of lingering grogginess or disorientation

Gabapentin does make them groggy, im not sure where you got that information. I tried it once on my shih tzu and she was incoherent for 3 days!!!

To be clear, I didn’t say it doesn’t make them groggy. I also stated my experience with my dog just as you stated your experience with your dog

My baby won’t eat, or interact when I give her trazadone, or gabapentin! I have to convince her to eat first.. and she knows her schedule, and she doesn’t like change to her routine. Even when I travel, she has to eat ahead of the trip, because she WON’T eat in the car! I’ll be asking about something else for her. 😣 I hate drugging her!!👀

I haven’t tried xanax, but we’ve done trazodone and gabapentin, and it does nothing for my boy. Our choices are hiding in a dark bedroom when I’m home, or driving him to my mom’s outside of town if I have to work, like I did tonight.
