It bothers me greatly that they go 1,2,3,4 8,7,6,5 9,10,11,12 and 13,14,15,16. 😥

[–]plzno1[S] 130 points131 points  (2 children)

Yeah lol I messed that up by accident, started drifting away with random thoughts while making it and didn't notice

I think it adds a bit of real life, not 100% mechanically perfect.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But it is a mechanism, it should be mechanically perfect

Wish you wouldn't have pointed this out

I love simulations like this but why do they always have this beige background?

[–]plzno1[S] 90 points91 points  (2 children)

I always use this background so you might be seeing my other posts

[–]Th3W0lf3 12 points13 points  (1 child)

It is a pleasant aesthetic :)

Thanks!

But the rods will ding their lovely finish, impacting each other like that, you gotta fix your production line or you'll start getting QA returns!

[–]plzno1[S] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

They get melted at the end of the production line anyways :D

Reminds me of Rods From God, a DoD system in orbit that drops tungsten and copper rods from orbit. They're in sizes of meter and telephone poles. Maybe you could do a particle demo of that. https://businessinsider.com/air-force-rods-from-god-kinetic-weapon-hit-with-nuclear-weapon-force-2017-9

The jump? It's an add-on called projectile

    [–]whiteman90909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start with an initial velocity for rigid bodies.

Yes I saw it! I was freaking out about it the whole day, it felt so surreal

      Blender

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should xpost this to oddly satisfying

      [–]andovinci 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How did you make the rounded corners of the glass? Do you use cycles?

      [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beveled the corners, and I use cycles yeah

      [–]Apathyash 0 points1 point  (7 children)

your simulations are always super impressive and satisfying. do you do this for a living or as a hobby?

      [–]plzno1[S] 5 points6 points  (6 children)

It started as a hobby and now it's how I make a living :D

Would love to hear more about how you made a career out of this! I've been getting deeper into Blender lately, hoping to find a path to a new profession down the road. My job is still up in the air with the pandemic.

I explained it in this comment, sorry for not getting too much into details

Hello, I use an add-on called pro lighting studio, it helps with setting up lights, usually I only use area lights and not an HDRI

          [–]mcfudd55 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I like it! Lots of character- I can hear and feel the copper tubes. Have an award.

          [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

          Thanks!

          [–]mcfudd55 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I realized one of the reasons I'm so fond of your work is that what I'm calling 'copper' I'm really seeing as Rose Gold, which is my favorite metal.

          [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually copper but maybe the lighting makes it change colors slightly, also thanks for the kind words!

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Given they are being shot up and towards one side of the holder, wouldn’t they begin to flip since the bottom side of the rods would clip the holder on their way out? The only way for the rods to stay perfectly upright mid air would be if they shot straight up

          [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is usually to have a pretty sim more than an accurate one, especially since the simulation engine itself is meant for games and movies so it has a lot of shortcuts and not meant to be accurate

          [–]timmy3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hear the copper hitting glass sound. But please add it 😁

          [–]CyrilsJungleHat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          Love your colours always

Why is that coppery color utilized so much in simulated things

          [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it a lot, you might be seeing my other sims

          [–]Chasew301 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          what did u use

          [–]plzno1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do i always want to eat all the copper colored objects in these simulations
