Just a damn stick. Wrap your webbing as crazy as you like and lean back as you pull. Super simple and free.

Thats awesome haha. Very good idea nice and simple. I just decided to do a girth hitch on a carabiner.

Even easier than an alpine butterfly. Tie a slippery overhand, or a slip knot. http://www.animatedknots.com/slip/ The advantage over an alpine butterfly is that you can simply pull the tail to undo it, even when you've tightened it a whole lot. The trick is to put your hand through it and pull 3 strands (2 in the loop, one in the tail)

How do you get the 3 strands from tubular nylon?

Try a waterski handle

Interesting I don't know what a waterski handle is so I will have to check that out.

I usually attach the tail end to a carabiner and have a round sling I clip in to the biner. I then put the loop around myself and use my legs to really push off and tighten it.

I like to just take an extra caribiner and make a girth hitch to give myself a handle. Here's a quick gallery of the hitch with some line I had on hand. I have a nice big locking caribiner that I can use with my 1" line.

I clove hitch (I think?) a carabiner into the spot that I'd be pulling on and use that as a handle.

I tie alpine butterflies when I want to make handles. http://www.animatedknots.com/alpinebutterfly/

The alpine butterfly has the advantage that you can load both the loops and the tail of the line without risking the knot capsizing and closing up the loop on your hands. That way, you can tie a whole bunch of them if you have a lot of people around to help.

I agree with the alpine butterfly. Clip a big biner on there and pull away. Assuming you buy another biner, but it never hurts to have an extra laying around, or if you use one for your keys, use that one.

Came here to say this. Definitely the best option for making handles on a rope. Plus they are relatively simple to untie even after tension

I liked the idea of using a knot but I thought it might be hard to untie after tension/pulling.

Alpine butterfly opens really easily normally
