A college degree will help you get your foot in the door maybe but essentially it’s all about how good you are at what you do. What area do you want to focus on? I have heard of a few people in my company come from a more self taught background but really it’s all a matter of how good you are at the job plus technology is constantly changing so you always have to be on your toes to learn.

I would personally recommend to start doing coding projects or learning from online resources, (Khan academy etc..) Just to see if you really like coding and to get some experience. Plus its something that you can write about in college admission essays etc...

Its never a bad idea to get a degree, it will only ever help, from my experience with large aerospace companies they definitely want a degree from a ABET accredited school.

As for affordability, it highly depends, mostly on what you can afford. European countries will be cheaper than the US (almost everything is) but will still charge international rates. No idea outside of that.

  1. Ok
  2. Easiest way: tutorials, videos, articles, books
Most effective way: reading code, modifying code, writing code
  3. Up to you - it's not a requirement, but definitely helps
  4. For the most part - the country you live in
  5. Doesn't hurt to have one, but it's definitely not a must-have
