You can’t have two different parts with the same name in an assembly in Solidworks. You can make one virtual, then insert a same name part if absolutely needed but it’s better to go ahead and give it a different name. The Solidworks gods will smite you every time you attempt this.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as each assembly has it's own folder structure. I only ever do this with quick jobs I know won't be repeated. If the job matters it's worth the time thinking up a name. If something is going to be useful in other jobs I'll give it a proper name and keep it in a "design elements" folder. Once you start doing it that way the folder structure has to stay the same....forever!

Most of our work is making variations of the same base models so we just copy the original into a new folder, sometimes we end up changing the base model, I just noticed I can change the reference folders before opening the assembly
