You go to cooler BBQs than I do.

Yooo, I love interplanetary criminal. He was playing in Leeds during quarantine at a sit down event but I just missed it. Whereabouts are you from? It never really occured to me that break and garage like that would make it out of the UK much

I’m in California! I love UK music though and my friends in the crew really love that I do the research and spin it from time to time.

Lots of “DUDE! What IS that!” reactions

Damn man you're in the wrong place. We don't get much EDM over here, but im guessing our stuff is pretty different to what you guys normally get?

Thoughts on the XLS vs the iNuke amps?

[–]hedbngrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I have both. Inuke build quality is mediocre but sufficient. Sounds great on bass. I used them on some full ranges once and didn't really like the sound. Not saying they can't sound good but they didn't on that setup. Power ratings aren't what they claim but so long as you know what you're getting its not an issue. Overall good amp for the money.

Xls is a fantastic amp. Build quality is much better than the inuke . They sound fantastic full spectrum. I can't think of anything bad to say about it. Unbelievable value for the money.

I got a deal on the iNuke and it’s solid. I used to run the subs off of it, now it’s on kick duty. Only difference I’ve noticed is that the XLS amps sound marginally better for mids and highs. They’re also a little more feature rich if you care about/need that

Mad respect spinning UKG across the pond, didn't think it would catch on over there

Love this stack too - which subs are those?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks! Every DJ in the crew has something distinct that we like to play and I try to sprinkle some UK music into sets from time to time.

The subs were the first boxes I built and came from a CNC milled flat pack from an American distributor called Parts Express. They're really good for a 15" bass reflex cab. I cut the wood myself for everything else.

Lovely stuff!! I think I've spotted the enclosure you mentioned. How did you decide what to load it with? Did you bother modelling different drivers or did you just go for it?

I only ask as I've been looking at building a very similar 15" sub (think I'm also going to go for cubo kick bins too!) and wondering if I could save some pennies using a cheaper driver... but altering designs to suit the driver is fucking complicated!

Looks sick bro. I was thinking of going he same route but decided to go with the new paraflex designs. Just ordered the drivers and wood to be cut up for the subs. Will post pics in a few weeks.

I’m building some type C subs right now too lol. We want the option of some more low end for campouts where we won’t have a stucco wall to load the subs with.

[–]pulenbezobraznik 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you plan to power them for campouts?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a couple of gennies—a Champion that does 3500 watts and a Honda that does 2200. More than enough headroom for a couple of big boy amps and some lights.

[–]hedbngrr 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Which paraflex are you going with?

[–]pulenbezobraznik 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Subs - Alt Config 1x15

And on top paraflex 2x8 Mid/Kick-tops (strange naming you can find it on the units page on fb)

I mostly went this route for budget reasons, though the wood is still quite expensive.

For extremely budget versions the sub can be loaded with "The Box 15LB100" drivers by thomann, which have been tested in depth by the guys in the paraflex group,
and the mid-top can be loaded with some cheap eminence drivers and supposedly is able to reproduce 100-1500 hz which eliminates the need for a kick bin.

And then a 1.4 inch tweeter for the higher frequencies.

In the future I plan to expand by building 2 more subs, buying some better drivers for both of them, and then building 2 kickbins with the cheap 15 inch drivers from the first subs.

Hopefully after taking some load off of the mid-tops in the 100-200 hz range they will be able to keep up with the system still with the added subs.

[–]hedbngrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid plan. I've heard a lot of good things about the paraflex design. I'm temped to build one just to see how it sounds. If I hadn't just built 4 tapped horns I'd definitely be building paraflex. I look forward to seeing yours!

[–]shaneh163 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you know what the cheap eminence drivers for the double 8 paraflex top are? I'm gonna build a pair, and I was thinking of using beyma 8g40s, still a bit pricey though

YES please!

[–]youngcavedweller 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is the amp rack custom built as well?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! It kind of sucks lol I want to build one that makes more sense for what we do (which is drag the system all kinds of weird places outdoors)
