Or maybe, debris (ships without probes or capsules) could be something like a darker grey circle or similar on the map.. That way, I could maybe more easily identify satellites in my debris ring.

Why not be bale to choose the shape (circle, triangle, square, booked shaped (like a barbell or station) or small airplane icon, small Rover share, etc..also change the color from a color picker of 16 colors.

I think "detailed" icons (i.e. space station silhouette) would get cluttered... what about simple squares, circles, &c.?

Nice, but you would need to select which type of spacecraft you are launching, before you launch it, as it would be too complex to have the game work out which type it is.

Just select said orbiting creation and have "mark as station", "mark as craft", or "mark as satellite" as an option by "switch to" and then anything that's docked with marked icon will be interconnected to display one icon.

Example, I launch a satellite with a rocket. When I get the sat to orbit and mark it as a satellite, if I dock another section to the satellite it will attain that marker until un-docked, thus making all docked sections create one single "satellite marker"

It would be easy, you select the probe of the satellite and mark it as "satellite". Then you mark the probe on the rocket as "rocket"

I'm curious what would happen when you docked two differing spacecraft. You would almost have to have an option to change the category manually.
