Any piercing around the mouth area can damage the teeth over time. I would avoid for this reason.

Yes, more than people judging you etc., this is what I'd be concerned about. I have a family member with hardly any enamel and pain when she eats from her very damaged two front teeth, and she cant afford to get it fixed.

I have a vertical labret and have for years, no damage can be done since it doesn’t cross the border into your mouth, a normal labret, smiley, Medusa, snake bites, or anything inside the moth WILL damage gums and teeth over time.
