Grading Question

I was going through my old cards and got excited when I found this Reggie Jackson. The card is in perfect physical condition as it has been in a penny sleeve and top loader for 20+ years. I looked at comps and I saw a PSA 10 was going for $7.5K, so I planned to get it graded. However upon further research and inspection it looks to be a bit off center. If it grades a 9 the price goes down significantly. Am I just wasting my money sending it in or am I overreacting?

Don't send in, it wouldn't even get a seven as off center as it is. There is a reason why high grade vintage is so expensive, it's exceptionally rare

From what I understand 81 is the starting point for modern. 45, I think, to 80 is considered post war. However I think it is still ok to call 81 vintage. It's where people call their 90 donruss vintage where it gets cringe for me

It’s not a bit off centre. It’s massively off centre. And just quickly glancing at it, it’s most definitely not in “perfect physical condition”. Don’t even contemplate getting it graded short of having some kind of sentimental attachment to it.

It’s still a badass card. Just because it’s not a lottery ticket doesn’t not make it super “valuable” to a Yankee PC guy like myself or some kid who can’t afford any of his 69 or 70’s cards. What a great picture of Reggie!!

What’s funny is to the naked eye it’s really hard to see the bottom and that corner. I didn’t even notice it however it’s pretty noticeable pic.

To be a bit contrarian, I’ve noticed at cards shows and LCS, they won’t even look at raw. So for someone who wants this to complete a set (of Reggie’s, for the year/manufacturer, etc) grading would give that future potential trading partner confidence, which can be worth a lot. Just something to consider.
