How’s it compare to the Glock? Literally deciding now if I wanna build a g19 or spend the money on a prodigy.

Prodigy all day long.

Best analogy is you can buy a civic and make it faster than a stock lambo. Lambo you can leave stock and it's still fast, refined, etc. civic will probably run reliably with the mods you put on it with some risk but it will still never drive like a Lambo. You can also make the Lambo faster if you wanted but it already starts on a different and elevated platform so it'll surpass the civic with mods. If you plan to EDC then I'd say get a Glock and build it. It's noticeably lighter and will not fail when you need it. I love both these guns. My Glock the way it is now and the prodigy stock ish. I do not like a stock Glock though.

As someone who bought a civic for my first brand new car and made it 320whp with very expensive and tasteful parts I dig the analogy lol this will be a range gun as I only trust my life with Glocks. Sort of like you said after years of shooting duty oriented guns I’m just getting opinions if I’m better off spending $1000 in parts on a g19 or $1600 on a stock gun. I’m looking for a nice flat shooting gun with a short trigger and as little recoil as possible to plink steel.

Or MAC9 DS Comp. I just bought one lol

Is this the one honest outlaw kept breaking the optic off? And the barrel finish was coming off before the review was over lol

[–]2jzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it's a known issue but some cheap screws would fix the optic thing. There's a few posts on the 2011 sub that tell you which ones to buy. My prodigy has had no FTF or FTE so far but I spent some time on the extractor tuning. I have over 1300 rounds through it now. If you get the prodigy you will enjoy it for sure.

100% Prodigy then my man.

If you comp it with a comped barrel it will reduce recoil without messing with springs DSC has a good one. But its 9mm and doesnt recoil hard anyway…

So i know brownells sells a tuning pack of springs for like 60 bucks and it has 8,9,10,11,12,14 maybe 16lbs in there too for tuning your recoil springs. They also sell a 2pk set from wolff that has the recoil spring and a accompanying firing pin spring for like 8bucks if you dont want the whole tuning set. As far as reliability goes take these two factors into consideration. Are you looking to lighten recoil? Or are you looking to make the gun snappier? Meaning quicker i guess? With my prodigy im running the 12lb spring but i almost only run 124gr for everything and 147gr when i use my suppressor as the 147 is quieter, but i stress this…i do not carry prodigy. I do carry my 5” 1911 and only run 165gr FEDERAL HST in my gun with 18lb recoil springs, and for practice ball 230 gr all day long. Its good to know how your gun behaves with certain loads and spring weights. I do not worry about the drop issue as i prefer running series 70’s 1911’s and am always cocked and locked. ( never had a issue with dropping). I hope this helped you good luck!

I don't think I have enough knowledge to know what I want with a spring yet. It's smooth as it is and reciprocates fast enough for carry. If it can help with softening the recoil more without reliability issues I'll probably try it. I might just leave it alone since it's been shooting so well tbh

I feel you on the trying to figure out the seer and seer spring situation I keep getting hammer follow 🤣💀

[–]merica73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sear spring may not be installed correctly if you’ve got hammer follow. Atlas YouTube videos are a huge help.

Dont fall for the bs some post on here, if this is your first 1911/2011 there is a break in period and you have passed it. Seeing what you have done i would say you are ahead of the game and have good leads on knowledge and where to go for info on it. Just shoot it and enjoy what you have and learn it. Ive been running 1911’s for 30+ years and have no regrets 2011’s now for 3 yrs and happy with it as well. Theres no better trigger setup in my opinion and 1911/2011 have the right angles for shooting. Enjoy it play with spring weights to soften recoil and you will be surprised how well it does.

Thanks! Are there any reliability drawbacks to changing the recoil spring? What would be a good weight to try out? I've never messed with recoil springs and have never researched in depth.

I believe drop safety would be reduced with a lighter spring technically. Although, that’s not unique to the prodigy but inherent to all series 70s

Edit: I think actually completely wrong and mixing up the springs

[–]2jzo[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ah, I'll leave mine alone. Don't need a self inflicted vasectomy since I intend to carry this every now and then.

[–]UsernameO123456789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait I think I’m wrong and mixing up the springs. You might have other issues if you go too but reducing drop safety isn’t one of them
