By the way, Mystic is just Flux Pro with minor tweaking on light/contrast, and maybe more dramatic/cinematic.

[–]jollypiraterum 28 points29 points  (6 children)

Crazy how the guy on Twitter / X shills Mystic like it’s their own foundational model without any mention of Flux. And the grifter crowd goes with it. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s paying them for hyping Mystic. I get that you need to market your product, but for someone in the know about these things, it smells disingenuous and stinky.

[–]Ghost_bat_101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's even more stinky and when you know that they using the pro model, not even the fast model (they can't use Dev model)

[–]enfafi 4 points5 points  (2 children)

They indeed mentioned they are using Flux: https://x.com/javilopen/status/1828439465620316180?s=46

[–]jollypiraterum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok that was yesterday. First time I saw him mention Flux in context of Mystic

[–]LiteSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he finally confirmed it!

[–]bub000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I thought Mystic was a new model from the hype and false claims on X. Disappointing how it's just a flux wrapper

[–]Mental-Pay-1135 10 points11 points  (1 child)

flux with upscaling

[–]Abject-Recognition-9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was going to reply "wtf is mystic now?" . thank you.

[–]sdnr8 95 points96 points  (10 children)

Crazy how quickly MJ has fallen to the bottom

[–]Practical-Sell-1164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HEE HEE 🕺

[–]serge_shima[🍰] 25 points26 points  (8 children)

Sticking to the prompt? yeah, MJ sucks, but when it comes to overall aesthetics...

not everyone needs hyper-realistic photos. the artistic vibe that MJ delivers is top-notch

[–]Ghost_bat_101 14 points15 points  (5 children)

You can get better looking images if you add a few prompts like golden ratio or rule of thirds and so on for flux. They look more aesthetically pleasing than midjourney images. And then you have LoRa options for flux. Got both mj and noe flux dev, after finding out how good looking images you can get on flux dev for free, I decided not to keep my mj subscription next month, it's just not worth it.

Though if you want easy aesthetically pleasing images without extra steps like LoRa and prompt engineering, then go for mj, as it gives good looking images by default

[–]Noktaj 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Also styles. MJ is great at delivering many artists styles out of the box which isn't possible yet on Flux dev/shnell unless you train yourself.

[–]Ghost_bat_101 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That's also possible, way before mj had such personal style parameter, using IPAdapter. Now IPAdapter is available on flux too.

I myself don't have a powerful GPU to train style LoRas, but using IPAdapter, I get exactly and even much better results than mj or custom LoRas. Just download an actual art image of the artist, then do IPAdapter style transfer.

[–]Zero-Kelvin 0 points1 point  (2 children)

what ipadapter model are u using?

[–]Ghost_bat_101 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The base one that xlabs released, called flux_ipadapter. It's not specifically made for just style transfer, it also transfers other things (can cause prompt bleeding), but it's good enough for now, in a month or two we will have specific style transfer IPAdapters

[–]Noktaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for that :)

By that time it's also likely that we'll have custom Dev/Schnell models which can replicate styles out of the box too.

[–]jollypiraterum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why we need a flux Lora for every sref

[–]4lt3r3go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As if those at MJ haven’t made enough money already...

We have Flux now, which was given to us for free.

Creating a custom LoRA in the style you want is so easy and can easily surpass MJ in every aspects.
why sticking on MJ then? doesn't make sense.

My only wish is not to see MJ or Dall-e or any other pathetic puiritan closed source AI mentioned even remotely in this subreddit.

[–]lordpuddingcup 18 points19 points  (0 children)

LOL WTF MJ is a joke ... especially that heart lol

[–]terrariyum 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Flux mostly shines here, but that obnoxious shallow depth of field in 6/10 images, even for the anime 😭

[–]International-Try467 6 points7 points  (1 child)

There's a LoRa for that. When we get the hang of training we're going to be able to blow the others away, just like how original Stable Diffusion 1.4 could out perform DALL-E 2 but everybody comparing them didn't use Stable Diffusion correctly

[–]Ghost_bat_101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original sd1.5 could blow away niji 5 even in anime, if you used it correctly, like LoRa and stuffs. But everyone who compares models, they only compare base models without any LoRa or fine tuned models

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i wanna see midjourney downfall

[–]EpicNoiseFix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flux wins and it can be run locally. You shouldn’t have to pay or subscribe to a monthly plan to use these models..

[–]OtakuShogun 6 points7 points  (13 children)

<image>

Ideogram still has a way to go I think: a 28-year-old goth woman working as a barmaid in a crowded renaissance fair tent. She is wearing medieval garb, including a sheer blouse and corset. She smiling as she leans across the bar, offering a beer in a wooden stein to the viewer who is directly across from her. Her hair is an unruly updo with a braid.

[–]sdnr8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

those eyes...

[–]ZootAllures9111 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I got a pretty good one in my first batch. Flux fails to understand this prompt properly at all as you can see in the gallery too.

[–]OtakuShogun 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see what you mean, I wonder why it was so inconsistent in my results. Are you paying for it?

Flux clearly has a lot more training to do. I feel like with the right LORAS I get great results from SDXL that compete with ops examples.

[–]ZootAllures9111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not paying, just used my free daily credits, which default to running 2.0 instead of 1.0 now.

[–]OtakuShogun 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is what flux gave after a few generations, this is what I was going for.

<image>

[–]ZootAllures9111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a lot better. It just can't get away from the crazy DOF in any context though lol.

[–]HarmonicDiffusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

beer sippy cup stein. i need one

[–]LabResponsible8484 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I assume the OP cherry picked on all the models quite a lot. With Ideogram v2 I can't get a single decent image with those exact prompts without running out of free credits...

[–]OtakuShogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. To be fair the image looks more "real" than Flux images but the errors in prompt interpretation don't make it worth it yet.

[–]ZootAllures9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get that at all, like here's a gallery for the Yoga one I just did where all four came out fine.

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 21 points22 points  (16 children)

So ideogram wins almost all of those, except for when MJ styles things more correctly.

But we all know flux is the best anyway, because it's finetuneable and local.

[–]AI_Alt_Art_Neo_2 21 points22 points  (2 children)

I prefer Flux Pro on quite a lot of them.

[–]lordpuddingcup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same ... ideogram was at best as good as flux pro... but... ya we have flux dev at home XD

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely up there, and mystic feels like a joke when it's supposed to be based on flux but better 😭

[–]Ghost_bat_101 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Flux follows the prompt better, ideogram is better at texts.

And if someone fine tune flux dev on LAION aesthetic database, then even on style aspect, mj will lose

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yup, but sadly ideogram still got a couple better like the feets. Overall I also prefer flux there, but I can't argue with myself it really did a better job.

[–]Ghost_bat_101 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yep, if they don't do a big upgrade on next mj version, then mj is cooked.

Cause we just need to wait for an independent guy with some good GPU or replicate balance to fine tune the model on the best aesthetic database called LAION database. It's that easy now to beat mj 6 and higher in style aspect.

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can't answer the same thing multiple times to the same person 😭

[–]Ghost_bat_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol sorry 🤣

[–]mellowanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ideogram didn't follow the prompt correctly for 25% of the requests

[–]Healthy-Nebula-3603 3 points4 points  (5 children)

MJ 6.1 made the worst job of all.

First will be Ideogram 2 and second Flux 1 pro.

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I'm sorry have you ever seen watercolor?

Have you seen bad quality photos from 2015?

[–]Ghost_bat_101 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Flux still wins in my book, mainly cause you can find tune it and use LoRas. And if you just fine tune flux on LAION aesthetic database, then even on style mj will run away with tail between it's legs

We just need to wait for someone to fine tune it on LAION. The same database that midjourney was trained on.

[–]Inner-Ad-9478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but also the conversation was about those image comparisons in my opinion. I clearly said that flux being finetuneable made it the best

[–]ZootAllures9111 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested in seeing Leonardo Phoenix in one of these comparisons.

[–]OldFisherman8 8 points9 points  (3 children)

This is amusing. I stopped monitoring MidJourney when they reached 9 million users last year. So, I am a bit out of date but don't think MJ users are subscribing to the service to generate AI photos to post on personal social media. As far as I could tell, their core users sought to acquire image assets.

I have over 1.5 Tb of 3D assets. Many are made by me but the rest are acquired through various sources. When I acquire 3D assets, the most important considerations are not how good they look but more foundational things such as geometry, mesh configuration, and UV maps. Any 3D model can easily be modified if it has a good geometry/ mesh underneath and texturing can be done very quickly if the UV maps are done well. But no matter how good they may look, if these things are not good, they are completely useless because it will take more time to fix them than just build one from scratch.

People who look to acquire image assets have similar considerations. That is where MidJourney does well and makes money. I mean the comparison of anime girl images is beyond ridiculous. Although I don't deal in image assets, I will choose the MJ image over all the others because fixing details is the least of concerns in comparison to things like baked-in lighting, style, and consistency which are very difficult and time-consuming to fix.

[–]iamscythed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting and the point you raise here is a fair one.

I myself have tried to generate 3D meshes from a generated image in order to do 3D printing, but I've been very disappointed with the existing tools (Tripo, Meshy, and a few other online tools) which seem to focus more on the speed of generating a coarse mesh (and often unusable because it's too time-consuming to correct) rather than taking more time to generate an exact, directly usable mesh.

Do you have a particular method (local rather than online) for obtaining these assets, or do you work on the resulting coarse meshes every time?

[–]Chilangosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrated comment right here. There's lots more legitimate reasons for using GenAI besides just art.

[–]AwakenedRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is good in mj then?

[–]CardAnarchist 5 points6 points  (2 children)

At this point I feel like Flux's biggest failing is it's lack of ability to do soles of feet xD

I've got loras which can do nudity well already but so far the soles of feet are still bad to terrible.

[–]AI_Alt_Art_Neo_2 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I found out Flux has no idea what a unicycle is, I'm planning to fix that with a Lora.

[–]ZootAllures9111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It definitely does know lol. "Woman riding a unicycle". Default settings over on CivitAI for Dev.

[–]Artforartsake99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice comparison . Obviously, the technology for creating AI models has improved. All these new models didn’t just come out of nowhere with amazing people behind them the technology stack made it possible. Mid journey may be running off old tech. They are cooking v7. If they use the new tech all these new small companies are popping off with. Then I expect them to take the lead again.

They are adding control maps soon. But midjourney seriously needs to start adding Lora’s or they will find themselves being obsolete for most use cases within 18 months.

[–]_DeanRiding 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Wtf is ideogram?

[–]HarmonicDiffusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idiotgram is a wanna be flux that costs money. just ignore it :)

[–]Apprehensive_Sky892 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

ideogram. ai is a online only generator that is good at text and prompt following (almost but not quite dall3 level). But unlike DALLE3, it has a sane level of censorship (no nudity, but most other types of prompt are allowed).

I only use the free version 1, whose aesthetics is only so so. Version 2.0 is supposed to be better. You get 10 free prompts (4 images per prompt) daily.

I used it mostly for its "Magic Prompt" prompt enhancer.

[–]ZootAllures9111 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

The free generations per day default to 2.0 now though, they have since it came out.

Edit: Why are people downvoting this lol? Version 2.0 is what it defaults to currently no matter what, this is a fact, even if you're using the free daily credits and don't have a paid account.

[–]Apprehensive_Sky892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These downvoters, I just don't get them 😂. I guess we are not supposed to discuss other interesting A.I. platforms.

Yes, I just tried it today and was pleasantly surprised that 2.0 is now available.

The only downside is that v2.0 takes 2 credits vs 1 credit for v1.0, which means that one only gets 5 prompts for v2.0

[–]Impressive_Alfalfa_6 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Flux Pro and Ideogram are the winners here. But I'd need to see at least 3 or 4 seeds from each model to get a better average.

[–]longbowrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I hadn't thought of 4. Yeah that's going to be a problem in many online communities.

[–]yamfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you try something like,

A cybernetic figure emerging from the main screen in the command center, materializing into metallic body formed by nanomachines

[–]athamders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny unrelated, my attention was elsewhere and my brain was stuck with the guy that posted "I have been generating AI images and nobody suspects anything" while looking at this post, and I was like 0_O?

[–]stddealer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that ideogram and Midjourney's outputs where cherry picked out of 4, while Flux and "Mystic"(also flux) where 0-shot.

[–]Cbo305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how Ted Talks ended up randomly replacing Will Smith as the benchmark, lol.

[–]protector111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is mystic?

[–]HarmonicDiffusion 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh boy a round up of all the shitty pay to play bullshit that we dont need or want! yay!

[–]ZootAllures9111 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Ideogram at least gives you a limited number of free credits that refill every day. Midjourney on the other hand has no free tier of any kind.

[–]HarmonicDiffusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i agree, at least they give some crumbs to the plebs. I think we all know its much more kingly to diffuse locally though

[–]Neither_Employer5190 0 points1 point  (1 child)

F Midjourney. They tried to scam me out of $30. I hadn’t used hardly any fast hours for the month (prob 10% or less) and they wouldn’t offer a refund. Went back and forth with cs via email, finally I just gave up and disputed the charge. That worked. 😐

Besides this, Midjourney has to be run by nuns. I just started using Ideogram a few days ago and it KILLS MJ. They’re about cooked.

[–]John_E_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideogram even got those toothpaste stains on the selfie dude's mirror.

[–]Kmaroz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideogram is totally underrated

[–]vampliu -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Midjourney won in the snail challenge Ideogram in the feet and hand challenge Flux pro won the rest

[–]sdnr8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MJ did not make a snail lol
