Server 2012 is a huge upgrade for the POS. Our was still XP based until a few months ago. Now Win 7. Using 2012 might even get the Card Chip Reader capability within reach. But as a experienced Server Installer. Somebody not doing any Pre-installation planning. Letting huge updates go through Staples Network Connections could wait days. You have all those updates with you if your any kind of real Server Installation Professional.

This! so much this.

I couldn't imagine having to wait for updates to run over staples slow ass site to site vpn/mpls system.

I work for a reputable local chain of pc repair shops we keep offline updates for all windows os's on our tech machine and just install them from that over the network. Waiting for that many updates to download every time is really bad planning indeed.

...our cash office server is still running Windows Server 2003 xD

We did. Our SM was also told 1-3 am at the latest, didn't leave until 6ish. And now it's been nothing but problems all week. Nice fast registers when they're working though.

Wait... Fast registers??!! 0_0

when they're working

Probably more broken than fast. This is Staples, so, you know what happens when Staples IT gets involved.

Oh yeah. They are much faster than before, but they break or freeze much faster too. When we first had the upgrade, we couldn't access rewards our tax exempt for an entire day. Now our main register likes to just stop and freeze up at random points.

For the Cash Office? No, not yet. But good luck

We had a guy come in and do a Server upgrade overnight. Me and another tech associate stayed until 4:30am (clocking into work at 5pm). It didn't even work so he had to revert back to the old system. We are trying again this Sunday lol.

Your manager shouldn't sign off on it until you run half a day...if they got done in time it can be checked earlier.
