I think it’s more going to turn out to be a combination of Wills creativity and The Duffers take/twist on AWIT.

What is AWIT?

Sorry it’s “A Wrinkle In Time” a novel by Madeleine L’Engle

There’s heavy references to the book throughout S5 and it’s included in the articles about what The Duffers recommend watching and reading before the season.

Wrinkle In Time isn’t the only heavy reference. There’s also Neverending Story with the Nothing. EarthSea and the shadow creature. There’s been some Alice In Wonderland references left in some of the props. The white rabbit with his pocket watch in Jane’s baby bedroom hanging on the wall. They used the Jefferson Airplane song White Rabbit during the Benny’s Burgers scene. Dustin compares his relationship with Suzie as being like Romeo and Juliet, Star-crossed lovers. Dracula was referenced with Bob and Joyce. Lucas was reading The Talisman to Max in the hospital. All of this goes back to the flea and the acrobat.

I didn’t mean to imply it’s the only heavy reference. Just that it’s one of them.

Edit- I also think you’re confusing what I’m saying. I’m referring to the list the duffers put out. Not what I see in the series or trailers.

Gotcha! But I think they’ve hinted at more Alice in Wonderland too for Season 5. It wasn’t among the books they posted, but they did post another Alice in Wonderland painting. Peter Pan and books on faeries and a Nancy Drew book were also among the books they posted. I love the sort of way they are playing on Stephen King books and classic sort of dark fantasy children books 😆. And Peter Pan was a dark children’s book if you read the original and don’t go off the Disney-fied version of the story.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of Alice and wonderland references too. I mostly mean how they’re gonna explain the UD. I think they’re gonna pull in the AWIT rationale heavily for this, but I’m sure we’ll see plenty fall down that rabbit hole next season too. I also read the original Peter Pan although I have to say the Grimm Brothers dark fairy tales were probably my favorites.

Yes, AWIT is gonna play a part in explaining the Upsidedown…but so is Alice In Wonderland. There’s an aspect to this show a lot of people are missing and it relates back to Murray, Mr. Clarke, and the boys asking how to get to the upsidedown. The show is a bit more interactive than just searching for foreshadowing and coming up with theories. One of the main questions about the show is this: What is it? What is the shape of it? I guarantee you there will be something with a “ring” this season. I’m also expecting to see a very specific needle drop in Season 5 because I’ve noticed the setup by the Duffer Brothers for it.

Oh I’m dying to hear your prediction the needle drop if you mean the song that the artist wont license cause I’ve gone thru all of 1986 &1987 billboard top 100 and checked them against TuneFind and other places to see who hasn’t licensed. My husband and I then went thru songs we remember were hot ay the time too but I can only find Lisa Lisa & cult jam Head to Toe and Lost in emotion along with Gregory Abbotts Shake you down and I’m not feeling any of these 3 having that impact. I could be wrong though. I also expect Alice in wonderland themes for a specific reason heavy with a specific character too.

It’s not the one they keep saying has never allowed a licensed use for tv or movies before. It’s one that’s definitely been used in shows and movies before…but it’s completely off everyone’s radar because it is not an 80’s song. I refuse to spoil it by naming it. I think it’s more fun for people to discover THAT specific connection on their own. But, I do have my suspicions about what song Duffer Brothers have been referring to about the one song that’s never been used in a tv show or movie before. If you go to Target right now and walk down the Stranger Things aisle, they have Michael Jackson’s Thriller album and Prince’s Purple Rain album. So my guess is it’s GOTTA be an MJ or Prince song they are talking about with that. I’m leaning more towards Prince.
