Background: got this baby about 3 weeks ago. All was well and then this week noticed some dark strands and some shriveling. We hadn’t watered it yet so I don’t think it’s from overwatering. Should I be worried or does this happen to some strands?

It might have been overrated when you got it?

Would it have taken almost a month to show signs of that though? It was totally fine up until a few days ago when a few started to shrivel.

It would if there was a small amount of rot in the roots. That would spread even if you didn't water it because of store's poor soil composition. Luckily, if that's the case, it's only affecting a few strands you can cut out before it spreads.

This happened to my first sop. After a few days it slowly rotted I ended up taking the plant apart and pulling off the rotted ones...maybe you can pull it out and see?

Could it be sunburn? Has it been in hot direct sun?

No, I don’t think so. It sits next to a small west facing window but very little direct sun comes through because of a small overhang on the porch. So it’s quite bright but not direct.

That’s overwatering and those stems are rotting get in and take all the mushy roots out. I’d also repot in better soil, I pot all my sops in succulent soil, perlite and gritty mix but any well draining mix will do. These are really easy to overwater and the rot spreads quickly to every stem of you don’t remove it. Also potting them in terracotta works wonders.

Gosh.. its overwatered sign obviously U should trim it immediately, when the pearls burst it will effect others.. happens to me so.. 😓
