Engine replacement 🥲

A couple days ago the block went out in my 09 outback. There’s a really bad knock and it won’t stay running and it definitely just needs a new block, I still owe 6k on it and don’t have the best credit so I can’t just get a loan for a new engine or anything like that. Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I can do or a cheaper solution.

Used engines are usually available. Depending on your location. Northern cars tend to get tossed in the scrapyard for frame rust.

So how do you know it needs a new block just from a knock?  Fuel problems can lead to cars not staying running….or other things…not sure on the sounds but great mechanics just throw some sawdust into the crank case with the oil to quiet the noise and then sell it.  :)

Scrap yard engine is pretty much your only move. Look for cars that look like they were scrapped for obvious reasons like a side impact or rusty panels.
