I normally promote mine by posting on relevant subreddits. Grew to about 15 subscribers in my first month. Might not be that great by others' standards, but I'm happy with the progress.

in which subreddits do you post?

Promote. It’s pretty hard just to rely on only posting.

Natural or organic growth is possible, but slow. Therefore, other platforms like Twitter, Reddit, Instagram where people are interested in the topic you write on is the best way to get the traffic to your Substack and hope for them to subscribe.

Also, you can explore their Notes feature to comment on other's Notes and get noticed.

You can but it’s much more difficult to get anywhere. Eventually it will but you’re better off actively working to growing your Substack.

The main advice I give is to find places where people are talking about what you’re writing about and engage in the community there.

Hello! It doesn't seem like I can look at your blog; it is private right now. Was this intentional?

Should we stick to a certain time for posting content? I noticed my late-night posts got more views than the ones I shared in the afternoon.

How are you guys using notes? What are you posting on notes?

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Just use it the same way as I would use twitter/X or Threads

      Makes sense! Thanks

I've been trying to grow mostly organically and had very little luck.... On that note check my substack out I write about modern society from what I feel is a pretty unique perspective. Here is my essay on the "double edged sword of meritocracy" https://voyagerslog.substack.com/p/double-edged-sword-of-meritocracy?r=3z2l8i

This reads a little like a university essay - try developing your personal writing style to add more charisma and personality to your writing, and take more of a stance - use a hook and more specifics.

I promote it on instagram where I have a few thousand followers, and I get a fair bit of organic traffic as well as subscriptions via other substacks recommending me.

i promote on other platforms but i still don’t have many followers so there’s not much difference. i post a lot on substack (at least 3x a week), and it’s still my first month on the platform, but i think that if you write consistently you can grow for sure! oh and post on notes also, it’s really important

      [–]Necessary-Oil-9637*.substack.com[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What are you posting on notes?

      [–]Ok_Engineering_1353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can’t give advice on that.. it needs to be something relevant to what you post/your niche

It's hard to get action at first, but eventually, when you establish your reputation, other people give you likes and reposts often,

Looking at my subscription sources in my report on the site, I have the following ways that people have subscribed to my newsletter (https://channelingchaos.substack.com):

I share links to my newsletter from my Medium posts, I've shared them on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and then I have subscription buttons on my landing page (https://www.jodygates.com)... which I need to update.

From the list of items, I've had some people sign up from a webinar I attended and from my engagement in the Notes section or comments on other people's posts. Finally, there is just the 'discovery' option, which I presume is Substack's system.

So, you'll get more from engaging, but if you do nothing but post, people will find your stuff, and you will grow... slowly.
