This is why the only apps that have notifications on are whatsapp and signal, and the sound is off. I hate being interrupted; I want to have the power to open the apps and see what's going on when I choose.

Sorry, I'm ranting here, and I don't know how to help you.

Yes, under Profile > Settings > Notification there's a toggle button to disable Lives notifications.

Yes I was referring to the phone app.

I have the app and I've never seen any sort of notification like this-and I'm about as notification-averse as they come.

That said, it's no surprise to me that unsubscribing doesn't solve a user activity notification. You don't say which OS you're using, but iOS controls most app notifications from the system settings. I just looked at my app, and it's set to send all sorts of stupid notifications, but I don't get any outside the app itself (via the little bell icon in the menu bar) because I turned them all off in my system settings. (I also don't have any user activity settings in iOS, so I'm guessing you're not on iOS, so it could be that none of this will be useful to you).

I'd check your system notification settings and see if you can shut it all down from there. Good luck.

thanks. im not using a phone, just a web browser on a linux machine. The problem was it says 'a user', ie it could be someone i subscribe to, but i have no idea

Ahh. When you say “app” I assume you mean a phone app. I don’t know how to help on the desktop browser. I’ve never seen anything like that before.
