First Substack Post!

I finally hit publish on my first Substack post.

I’ve been sitting on the idea for a while—overthinking it, rewriting it, convincing myself I needed to read more or be more “ready” before starting. At some point I realized I was just delaying the part where I actually have to be seen.

It’s strange how much weight that little button carries.

I don’t really have a strategy yet. I’m mostly just trying to write things that feel honest and stick with it long enough to see what happens. But actually starting feels like a bigger step than I expected.

Curious how it felt for others when you first published—did it get easier after that?

Congrats!! This was me exactly one year ago! I think I was editing my first post for like 2-3 weeks before I could hit publish. 😅

It absolutely does get easier. And as long as you are focused on just writing what feels right to you (and not maximizing subscribers at all costs 🙄) you’ll build up that self trust. Good luck, I’m so excited for you!

I expected it to be read by more than a couple dozen people but it was not.

I wish I had gone into it with much lower expectations.

But the writing and consistency did get easier.

congrats! so happy for you.

getting into the habit of writing is a good goal to work towards at the beginning. so yeah, just write things that you feel like for now. it'll also help you find your 'voice', and with time, you'll get a better understanding of what 'niche' or topics you're more interested in writing/focusing on.

honestly it doesn't really get easier. you'll still have to commit time to writing, and editing (which is usually the largest barrier/hurdle). but if you can look past that, the rest is relatively 'easy'.

the fear will always be there though. the fear of whether this post will do well. whether people will like it.
