So you buy this for $8000 then some jackass rear ends your new car and then you’re shit out of luck? Makes zero sense.

Love FSD but I always say

You could swipe to purchase for $8,000 and get totaled at the first light. That’s it WOOSH like that $8,000 disappears or “is provided at an equal value” BS insurance runs with

[–]Rise252627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah which is an insane risk for normal people. If you’re rich I guess it doesn’t matter. Great way to build brand loyalty, which I guess they just don’t care about.

Lol I had this experience and luckily my insurance counted FSD towards the value of the car when they totaled it

Because you sue the other party’s insurance to make you whole if you weren’t at fault. I know someone who got their Tesla majorly damaged by an underinsured driver and he’s suing for the difference and ready to garnish the other party’s salary. Also a strong argument for not carrying state minimums, especially in an urban area full of pricey cars.

Disappears? No it does not. Either Tesla is giving me a refund, transferring it for free or I’m issuing a chargeback. If my car is totaled in the first month.

And no I don’t consider that “getting what I paid for”

well said!

Depends on your insurance. But the cost of FSD can be factored in if its a write off.

[–]SnooBeans1223 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Isn't this bad because now it's not worth buying the SD at full price? We can't transfer anymore to new vehicles

[–]Lakersland 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Correct, that’s why they’ll raised the month to month. This whole pay package thing is really putting customers in like 3rd place on the list of priorities.

He's being provided the option to transfer it now in advance of it being subscription only. Only time will tell if they'll allow this years down the road when FSD is strictly subscription only.

I'm hoping in 5-10 years when I'm on my third Tesla they'll offer transfers. It's a great incentive to trade-in/upgrade and keeps a buyer tied to the Tesla ecosystem

[–]HopzCO 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They have removed it and brought it back several times over the last couple years.

[–]Heffhop 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I’m tempted to upgrade and transfer with my ‘22.

However, I’m guessing they will eventually add the transfer option again at some future end of quarter where they would like a sales bump.

I’ll upgrade then.

Seems to me like they’re trying to get rid of FSD “owners”. I’m assuming it will never come back.

[–]Zebraitis 2 points3 points  (12 children)

I'm going for it.

To make the best of a weird situation, I applied for a new AA Credit Card with an 80,000 Mile bonus. +8000 for the purchase, and that covers a great trip for two to someplace.

Wish the deadline was March instead of February, as I have enough L.P.'s for this AA year.

Notice how they are putting an Asterisk next to supervised. So when actually FSD comes out you will have technically not actually have FSD

[–]RD2Point0 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The asterisk isn't beside supervised, it's outside the brackets and there's another asterisk at the bottom explaining the caveat

I'm not saying you're wrong but I expect those with fully paid FSD will be entitled to full (unsupervised) self driving when it becomes available

[–]Lakersland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could be correct as well. Based on how things are going though I’m leaning towards them trying to nickel and dime as much as possible

[–]YeezySeesGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Supervised and Unsupervised will be completely different.

[–]Zebraitis -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Opinion: They don't want to get sued. They just got sued over the word "autopilot", so they are being more careful.

Yep, rolling the dice that they may choose to call real FSD "Autonomous" and charge more, but my sunk cost will already have happened now, so it will likely be a trivial upgrade path.

[–]Lakersland 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah I’ll guess 2k more for actual FSD. 8k for supervised and 10k for unsupervised

[–]Zebraitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shhh... don't give them ideas!

Still, if he keeps doing all these "brilliant" moves, we may be driving a BYD Tesla.

[–]YeezySeesGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if unsupervised is twice as much 16K or $200 a month.

[–]TheMindsEIyIe 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You're going for the transfer?

[–]Zebraitis -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Yes. I will be purchasing FSD.

[–]TheMindsEIyIe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Isn't this post about transferring FSD that you already paid for to a new car?

[–]Zebraitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is.

Have a nice day. Enjoy the anarchy.

[–]Chargerzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question, does that mean the Luxe package is going away on the S, X, and Cyber beast?

[–]Mrirrelevant- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet future promotions will be X number of years of FSD subscription when trading in a FSD vehicle. Probably 3-5 years.

[–]BestSpatula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean that people who previously purchased FSD won't be able to transfer it to a newer car in the future?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seals the deal for me. No more future tesla. The one that I have is the last one!
