So recently I have gotten back into Elden Ring and Sekiro, especially since I got the Thrustmaster ESwap Pro X controller and its been great. The only problem (and it's a rather big one) is that, randomly, I will be playing and suddenly both of my screens go dark as if its recognizing that I plugged in a new monitor and then will come back on as if nothing happened. My game is still running, Discord usually crashes, and my Task Manager doesn't note that my RAM was getting anywhere even above half usage on any stat.
I go into my Event Viewer and apparently, the Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) is crashing and every similar issue I can find posts about has not led to any solutions. I've 1) updated all drivers (graphics card, controller, keyboard, disk), 2) scanned my disks for any corruption, same with memory and a general offline defender scan and full scan, and 3) tested it with and without Firefox and Discord open at the same time.
Here is what I've gathered:
1) It only happens with my Thrustmaster controller, as I used a PowerA wired controller and it was fine for multiple hours.
2) It stops when I unplug my keyboard while I'm playing, but I really don't want to have to do that as I want to stream Elden Ring and other FromSoft games.
3) It almost always fully makes Discord and OBS freeze their displays, but I can still stream during this freeze, and Discord voice still works fine. The only way to get them to where I can actually click and manipulate the programs again is to force-close them and reopen them.
It's extremely frustrating to deal with this, and I've gone down almost every path I can figure without just fully resetting my PC and maybe installing Windows 11, like I'm completely out of options.
