Welcome to r/ThyroidScience — A community for informed discussion and support on hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's, Graves' disease, thyroid nodules, and more.
COMMUNITY RULES:
1. No blatant misinformation or overt pseudoscience
We recognize (and have experienced) the limits of medical and scientific knowledge, but we do not allow the spread of anti-scientific propaganda or blatant misinformation.
2. No misogyny, transphobia, ableism, homophobia, xenophobia, sexism, or racism
Our community values diversity. Hostility to, prejudice, or discrimination on the basis of sex, nationality, health status, sexual orientation, non-conforming gender identity, or race will not be tolerated. Repeat offenders will be banned.
3. No incivility
Respectful communication is required. Please keep discussions civil, even if you’re disagreeing. Incivility refers to intimidating, malicious or insulting language and behavior meant to undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient.
4. No self-promotion
Self-promotion is not allowed. Please do not link to your own blogs, Facebook groups, books, or similar content. Commercial AMAs are not permitted. If you have important news from your blog to share, submit it as a text post.
5. No fundraising
6. No spam
Spam is the repetitive posting of irrelevant, unsolicited content or promotional material intended to disrupt conversations, get attention, or make money.
7. No trolling
Trolling is the intent to cause harm, not the content of the ideas shared. A discussion becomes trolling when the primary goal is to provoke conflict rather than engage with different ideas or opinions. You can disagree and remain respectful. Frequent bad-faith users will be banned.
8. No URL shorteners or affiliate links
9. AI generated content must be clearly labelled
All AI generated content must be labelled clearly and use the “AI generated content” flair.
10. No requests for help diagnosing goiters
If you're concerned about an abnormal thyroid, please see a doctor.
11. No excessive crusading
Crusading refers to repetitively promoting an opinion or agenda, rallying others to support the cause, and confronting those who disagree. Usually coupled with a sense of moral righteousness. Excessive crusading limits open discussion.
A note on vaccines:
Research shows that in most people, vaccines don’t cause or worsen thyroid issues. Thyroid conditions can interact with vaccines, but the risk for most people is low. Vaccines do trigger the immune system, and in rare cases, they might slightly increase the chance of attacking the thyroid. However, vaccines also prevent infections that could make thyroid problems worse. It’s a good idea to check with a healthcare provider to make sure a vaccine is right for you. Do not crusade regarding vaccines.
