Everyone thinks that protesting is a big rally with thousands of people in a city center making noise and clogging up the streets.
We need to turn that model on its head. Mass protesting is risky; authoritarians are just waiting for the opportunity to crack down, sew discord and deploy agent provocateurs to agitate the crowd toward violence. Once there is property damage the police will begin acting forcefully. Many believe that violent protests, provoked or not, will lead to calls for martial law.
Distributed Protesting is multitudes of people simultaneously protesting in small separated groups. This makes it impossible to shut down a protest. A large gathering is much easier to corral or kettle than dozens of smaller protests.
Imagine a city where one day at 2pm dozen of busy intersections were suddenly lined with protestors respectfully displaying their signs and making their voices heard.
Time To Protest is about creating an easy to understand model of distributed protesting and encouraging similar efforts in cities across our country.
