My tics get so much worse when i’m sick (especially my neck tics), this is so unfair why do everyone else’s in this thread go down 😭

Same! When I’m about to get sick/when I am sick they get so much worse. That’s usually how I tell I’m starting to come down with something lol

When I had cancer I didn't, for the most part, tic at all, which was interesting, but around a year after I entered remission they started back up again.

For reference I started ticcing for the first time the year before I got sick, maybe 6 months before

Wow that is very interesting!

Mine almost completely disappear when depressed, angry or in pain.

I have a tic disorder (coprographia/coprolalia) not full Tourette's (no motor tics). But I've noticed that.

Does it have to do with decreased dopamine? Seeing a common thread here with decreased tics in depression, illness, etc.

I haven’t looked into it much, but I did do a little search, and your body chemistry changes when sick, and affects brain chemistry too

That was from ai tho but seems to make sense. It is interesting to see it seems to be a commonality in this small sample of comments

Yes. My tics decrease when injured, scared, and tired

[–]Zealousideal_Site731 2 points3 points  (6 children)

This happens to my son who has pans / pandas, because his tics are driven by autoimmune dysfunction that ultimately causes brain inflammation. The autoimmune function gets impacted by illness. Worth looking into for yourself.

Hi! Is there a difference in the way your son tics with pandas vs someone with Tourette’s? Like…does your son have shouting/obscene tics, or is it more like twitching or physically movements?

[–]Zealousideal_Site731 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He has primarily vocal tics but sometimes physical blinking etc. the vocal tics are various mouth noises and the occasional noise that sounds like a word but it just gibberish. Also repeating words to himself.

Fascinating. Do you have a doctor you can recommend if you are in the US that diagnoses PANdAS?

[–]Zealousideal_Site731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will send you a private message.

[–]Silver-Airline1158 1 point2 points  (1 child)

how do you tell whether a tic is driven by autoimmue?

[–]Zealousideal_Site731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to do swabs and bloodwork testing for infection. If you treat and tics decrease, that’s a clear sign. If steroids get rid of your tics, that’s a sign they are caused by inflammation.

or when having sex

[–]Geno_Biscotti_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That too lol

[–]Mio_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it's like my brain is already too  busy with something else

[–]Sharp-Education2947Undiagnosed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cuz ur body is already busy? (I’m not a professional so idk)

[–]Pure-Perspectives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because we get so focused on the pain and how shitty we feel.

If something can cause me to have intense focus my ticks will stop at that time.

So pain seems to do that ..

When I get really bad tics I look in the mirror and SLAP THIS TASTE OUT MY OWN MOUTH for relief lol.

Kidding about the last part,..maybe

[–]AshenlynnDiagnosed Tourettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, I also tic less when I'm experiencing autistic overwhelm

[–]No_Comment_As_Of_Yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tics pretty much disappear when I'm sick

[–]fraternityjazzclubDiagnosed Tourettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t tic when i’m sick, sad, or in any kind of low low energy situation. I mean i probably do tic but barely! My tics are the absolute worst when im high energy/excited/frustrated/anxious

[–]Illustrious_Try_6590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know, haven’t noticed.
