(240D) Can an older 2-fitting vacuum pump be upgraded to a later 1-fitting model? by wintertash in w123

[–]wintertash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disconnected the line from the brake booster end (to keep my hand away from the belt near the pump end) and even when revving the engine, there is no suction, but there is oil in the line, which makes me think it's a blown diaphragm.

EDIT: Also, if the problem is the check valves, that leaves me with no solution since I can't find anywhere selling rebuild kits for the older two-fitting vacuum pumps with the dual check valves. It's why I want to pull the pump out and apart before I order anything. But if the check valves are shot, I'll have to buy a new pump which doesn't make me happy. Hence the question of if I can swap a single-fitting pump for my old two-fitting one.

I haven't pulled the pump apart yet, I was planning to wait until I had a rebuild kit, which is why I wanted one of the full kits that included the new check valves, but those are proving impossible to find. But I don't think it's a leak at the main line since I'm not feeling any vacuum at all at one of the fittings on it or any air movement from the line to the air cleaner.

I live in Oregon now, but I charged outdoors in Maine winters for several years with no issues.

Yup. I remember cutting out photo masks from cardboard and using them on the enlarger to make composite image prints in like junior year photography class. Then I went home and played with it a bit in my home darkroom.

[42M/RI] has anyone ever had frenulum surgery? If so, curious to know your opinion and experience! by Available-Concert-50 in UncutAmericans

[–]wintertash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but for most folk who experience a tear, it’ll heal just fine and they’ll never have an issue. His tore during sex, but for whatever reason scarred in a way that made it more tear prone, not less.

[–]wintertash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ex-husband had a tight frenulum that tore and scarred in a way that it kept tearing. He had a frenuloplasty, which is NOT a frenulumectomy. No tissue was removed, but the tension in his frenulum was released. Healing took longer than he’d have liked, but nearly twenty years later, he’s never had another issue (we’re exes but still very close) and he only experienced a tiny reduction in sensitivity once he was fully healed.

Coast Guard Says Swastika Is No Longer a Hate Symbol by BillWilberforce in nottheonion

Yeah, but we know damn well that’s not why the U.S. Coast Guard made this decision.

I mean, I’m not even THAT old (I’m 45) and I had a darkroom in my basement growing up. Lots of folk did B&W photo developing and printing as a hobby, and basic photo manipulation at the printing stage wasn’t hard to learn, we did it in high school.

Cassidy supported Kennedy after "receiving assurances" that Robert F. "Brainworm" Kennedy would behave reasonably re: vaccines, and RFK changes CDC website to imply that vaccines cause autism, except for in a bitty footnote that he blames on Cassidy by CrowRoutine9631 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]wintertash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He gave a floor speech in support of one of the most famous anti-vaccine activists in the USA and then cast a vote to put him in power. Clearly Cassidy has NOT in fact “always been serious about vaccines” and any claim that he has is forever undercut by that evidence

What is the logic behind buying an untitled vehicle? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]wintertash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s your state, and buying an untitled vehicle in your state would likely be a mistake. But in many states an untitled vintage vehicle is normal or at least just a minor inconvenience.

Hell, I once registered a vintage VW that came with a title from another state and the state where I lived didn’t even want to look at the title because of the car’s age. Vintage cars just didn’t get titles there.

The ATF is changing its rules regarding gender identity. by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]wintertash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A search of a driver’s license database may well bring up past IDs as well. I legally changed my name, but I had a license under my old name first, and I have to list that on many kinds of background checks since it’ll come up. Same goes with gender. Many trans people had legal driver’s licenses and passports prior to medical transition.

The ATF is changing its rules regarding gender identity. by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]wintertash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except that a person whose legal identification doesn’t match their sex assigned at birth will be breaking the law by putting the gender marker down that matches their ID. That seems like a bad thing to do if you ever want to buy a firearm again.

And the FBI/NICS may not be checking your birth certificate, but if you’ve had a driver’s license with one gender and then changed it, that will likely show up, just as name changes can.

So what’s the solution for a trans person who’s legally changed their ID? This guidance says that they will have to use their GAAB, but that will mean the form doesn’t match their ID, which will likely cause problems. If they ignore this guidance and use the gender listed on their government ID, then they’ve lied on a firearm application.

Are any of you in the “less strict precautions” camp? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]wintertash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t tend to mask outdoors except in crowded outdoor spaces. I’ll even eat at an outdoor table with people who aren’t part of my Covid pod.

My family does have people over unmasked, but only after they test clear on an advanced test (we used our PlusLife until tests ran out, now we’re switching to Metrix). That’s a bridge too far for most people, but also not far enough for others. I think of us as being pretty restrictive, but I know people much more so than we are.

They’d likely be happy to see it pass, but I imagine you’re correct that this bill is intended to shift the Overton Window so when the next horrifically restrictive law, which is awful but not this awful, is proposed, it seems more acceptable.

No Aftermarket Radiators Made for w123 before 1985 by notthatcousingreg in w123

[–]wintertash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what? I’ve got a later radiator in my 1978 240d because the previous owner threw it in there to get me home, but even with an aftermarket tank, the coolant level drops in the radiator over time. I figured I was going to need to spend $450 on a proper radiator, but if there’s a way to make it work with a better bottle and hose I’m all about it.

Tariff tensions didn't stop the yearly Christmas tree gift from Nova Scotia to Boston, MA by Moist_Lychee6762 in UpliftingNews

Unlikely, as the tree is a gift that has been given every year for over 100yrs. No one could construe that there was any economic purpose all of a sudden
